Guest Ricksy75 Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 just come off the phone to orange concerning my phone calling home and using my credit without permission, apparently this is a feature of the phone, i said why isnt there a warning label/sticker on the phone that 3g is enabled by default his reply "its orange policy" !!! good way of making (stealing) money from the unaware, i said the 3g should be turned off by default for the new user to which i got no reply, this rant is all about having to buy a credit pack with the phone and before you know it its gone, why is orange allowed to do this, when i bought the phone nobody mentioned the fact that it would steal my credit unless i turned off the "feature", glad of this forum and the rom builders who have enabled me to get free from the sour lemon telecoms co and i can go where i want after i have exhausted my compulsory topup. Rant over.
Guest Azurren Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Even those who know all about data (3g) got conned out of their 10 credit by orange They give you a very "genorus" 50mb allowance but don't enable it for a few weeks. Instantly obliterates all your credit even before you start using the device! Most of us lost our initial credit, a great kick up the ass to go find yourself a better deal :P

Guest Matty-p Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 they are pretty bad. 3 are much much worse though. out of interest how are 3 the worst they offer unlimited texts unlimited calls and 650mb (loads) for a teener a month and the best 3g coverage (really imortant for me as it has reception in my house/on the bus) for a tenner a month . who's better?

I was with them in 2007 and the service quality was horrific. it doesnt really matter how much it costs when any call on a moving bus or train would randomly drop...

Guest Zalforto Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 One word - giffgaff Get as far away from the rip-off main networks as possible
Guest Stuart_f Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 There's also the issue I had that the box said it was on some animal tariff with 100Mb data but the sim that ships with the phone is on the default setting and you actually have to call up and swap to the animal tariff that's plastered all over the box. That certainly wasn't obvious so my £10 went in an afternoon. I switched the sim and got away from Orange as quickly as I could the following day.
Guest Lew247 Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 One word - giffgaff Get as far away from the rip-off main networks as possible While I agree Orange is a total rip off I actually disagree with the view giffgaff is the best - up to a point. Giffgaff is VERY good, and their data/phone packages would take a LOT to beat but they use O2's network, in fact they are owned by the same company as O2 and as such the 3G coverage isn't the best The 2G coverage is brilliant, as good as it can get really, and the 3G coverage "ian't bad" but it's not brilliant, I live in Manchester and although there is a 3G site around 1.4 miles away the signal is so low it makes it impossible to use it. It WILL get better, they are expanding their 3G network this year so in a few months/another year they should be as good on 3G as any other network. I actually prefer 2G as the battery lasts so much longer, and I use wifi when I need to download something big. And I wouldn't swap from giffgaff to anyone else, I love the totally unlimited data and all their other perks
Guest Plxply Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 but they use O2's network, in fact they are owned by the same company as O2 and as such the 3G coverage isn't the best I've actually found quite the opposite, out of all the networks which I have used O2 has always provided me with the best 2G and 3G coverage. Although that is totally dependant on where you live and as such you will get varying reports from people about the coverage on networks e.g. I get hardly any coverage from 3, however I know some people who say they're the only network which provides them with solid coverage. If anyone is interested I'm talking about North West London as it is where I live and study.
