Guest david1212 Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) I had a Rogers HTC Dream and bricked it by following the wrong instructions trying to root and install a custom rom. I mean there was no software fix for it. Jtag may have fixed it but I could not find anyone who could do it. It was going to be more money to fix it than by another one used. So, $200 later I had "fixed" it by replacing it. What is the worst than I can do to my Rogers Dell Steak? I haven't flashed anything yet. It seems that from reading for the last week on here and xda that most problems can be fixed with software than can be downloaded and run. Is it very very rare that it can actually be beyond a "layman's" / "forum reading power user" repair? For Example: If I install rom manager for clockwork from the market: com.koushikdutta.rommanager, and it doesn't work, can I fix it? I realize the absolute worst is something goes wierd and it is broken in a way no-one can help me with. I am trying to get a sense of how hard or easy it is to end up with a $500 paper weight. My first Streak froze during some fastboot commands and it died completely! Not even the OS could detect a Qualcomm interface! So it IS possible to brick it! On the other hand if you follow DJ Steve's how to's you should have no problems with the Streak!
Guest vinkin Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 I'd probably hold off for now.. spring's coming up soon and if you're optimistic, so will the update. I haven't even been able to find recovery images that are good for Rogers' 7921 build and the official Dell 318 update. All blank screens or FOTA name mismatch errors.
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 thats because of having the wrong recovery
