Guest newbe5 Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) From the XDA Thread, I've been using this on my Vega for a couple of days, along with Sniffer, Emaild and the other NI apps. Now, because it's not using the Alpha NI ROM, and it's just the launcher sat on top of MCR, it's pretty fast, although there are bugs. Also, the vega really doesn't have enough memory to handle the whole front end comfortably. Has anyone else tried using this? TBH I'm fed up for LauncherPro and ADW or even GO launcher, they just really arent suited to the tablet screen size and I thought this would rock, but it just seems really REALLY clunky and in places, very poorly thought out (the app ribbon as well as the desktop screen are in some kind of utterly random order? Can't seem to order them alphabetically). Any thoughts? Zeb Edited February 10, 2011 by newbe5

Sure, the UI could be fancier or whatever, but with the various (scrollable) widgets I don't have much to complain. Haven't tried this adam launcher btw...

Don't get me wrong, Launcherpro works great, but it just feels like a huge phone screen. I can basically fit everything I need for everyday use on to one screen, making additional screens kind of pointless. The NI ADAM way of laying out a tablet is very nice, and it would be great to use many apps in this way, but having all of those panels loaded up at a time seems to gobble up memory pretty quick :/ It's not perfect either, but I find it a more sensible approach than using something that was basically designed for a very small screen, could just be me though :/ Can't wait for Honeycomb AOSP to come out because I'm sure that people will get it working on the Vega in record time, but until them I really do like playing around with other layouts and home screens to try and find one that fits with how I would like to use my device. Guest merch Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 does this work as is from xda or some modification required to get it working on the vega oppose to the g-tab

Zeb Why not try adw launcher. I have deleted all optional screens. Also i have changed the gridsize of adw to 8 rows and 8 colums. That makes 64 possible icons on one screen or several widgets and icons. Plenty of space now. Also adw looks fancy. Thoughcwaiting patiently for honeycomb to become availble. Question of time i suppose and our wishlist will be furfilled.

Go Launcher though is horrible on tablets, no where near customisable enough.

Go Launcher though is horrible on tablets, no where near customisable enough. I'm using LauncherPro Plus and with a 10x8 grid, resized the widgets to a good size and set it up pretty nicely. Using Beautiful Widgets clock and animated weather wallpaper (which looks sweeeeet) and multitas manager modified to bring up an OSX style launcher at the bottom of the screen when I push home button (spare parts is set up to make the end button work as home/sleep). So yea, its set up pretty well, but what I was getting at, is its still not really suited to a tablet in the same way as the NI launcher is, it works great, but still feels like its missing something. That's exactly why they have changed it all in honeycomb though :-P

Guest Lennyuk Posted February 11, 2011 Report Posted February 11, 2011 Yeah 3.0 has changed it all, and for the better. I wonder how long it will be until someone tries to make a 3.0 style custom launcher.
