hi. Streak is my 1st android phone and i coming from windows mobile.

In windows mobile i never had any issues with having multiple apps running at same time, and i could switch between them and they kept working in background and i could go back to them and picked up my work from where i left it.

With android the multitasking part is driving me crazy, i mean, maybe there's something wrong with my streak/android, but judging from my experience, is android really multitasking?

Ok so what i mean is: when i try to do same thing i always did in windows mobile, here it simply does not work, like, i open any browser and i load a website, then i run a game or another app for example and then i go back to the browser and the damn browser refreshes the page again everytime i go back to it, or lets say a program that has to make a list that sometimes takes a minute or so to do, if i switch to another program while the list is being created, even if the list is like 99% done, when i return to it the list starts over from 0 again instead of being finished and ready to work with...

It feels like everytime i switch back to an app i had already open, it does a stupid refresh or the app is reloaded again or something... i could understand it if i were low on memory and the os closed it while i used other app, but its not the case... so why this behaviour?

a good example is i like to play flash games in facebook or something like that, but if i switch to some other app and come back to the browser in like 5secs even, the page reloads and bye bye game... is this standard android behaviour? if it is this is not real multitasking at all... or did i messed up something and it can be fixed?

tks ahead for any help

It really does multi task but I do know what you are talking about.

I think it may be a shortcoming of the default browser, I get the same problem.

Perhaps someone who uses an after market browser could relate if they are having the same issue?

no no, it does exact same thing on skyfire, hd, opera, etc. And its not just browsers, it does it in many other apps.

like, sometimes i need to copy paste some different pieces of text from an app to another, when i switch back to paste, the freaking thing reloads and either makes me start from scratch, or, it reloads everytime wasting valuable time, and depending on app, bandwith too i'm imagining. Its particularly annoying in some apps when there's lists involved... have to wait a min or so for it to reload again, wasting precious time and battery... and even worse in some scenerious where u didn't save something...

For me this is not multitasking if an app needs to be refreshed/reloaded (whatever it is that it does), when i switch back to it, for that i could close it and open it again and have almost same exact result... it's deeply ruining my android experience and usability to the point i'm starting to have 2nd thoughts as to if android is worth all this hassle everyday...

lol sorry, this is becoming more a rant than anything i guess, so, is there any fix for this issue? i'm using 318 with perfmod

I know what you mean, I myself come from a winmo environment and the first thing I noticed was exactly this. I beleive it is the way android works so apps don't eat up much RAM, and there is little to not much we can do about it that I know off, altho what I've found useful in situations where I need to multitask game/browser or browser/calculator/whatever is not closing the apps with the "back" button I simply use Home button and that only minimizes the app, then I go to the menu and click the icon of the app I want, then in theory you should have both apps open but there is no taskmanager or taskswitcher built into android so you have to keep going back to the app shortcut to switch one or the other. This of course doesn't work on all cases, there are some apps like Titanium Backup that won't load the apps list into memory so everytime you open the app or you even change screen rotation it will re-load the list.

Hope that helps.

This doesn't happen on my phone. Most games resume when I return (some do just restart), the browser (Miren) never reloads when I get back to it. Some apps are not designed for multitasking - like my banking apps - always need to sign in again. But like I said, most others work well, ebay, zillow, sudoku, etc.

Maybe this is a bug specific to your build and streak.

Apps like the ones described above are fine..

However, the refresh happens with virtually every single action game. I've just come to accept it as what it is.. I was on an iPhone before this and all it done was make me angry. Came from winmo before that which actually had the same kind of multitasking you'd expect from a PC, although I can't vouch for winmo 7.

Maybe Google will get to grips with proper multitasking one day. I really they do because there's no way I'm going back to crapple.

ye, exactly my feelings. winmo does perfect multitasking like a normal pc does.

i tried it right now with miren, miren indeed does not refresh a normal html page, but, flah games from facebook it does reload them. i just tried one game, started playing, didnt pause it and then i pressed home button to go to the desktop, i could still hear the sounds of the game still active and playing normally in the background, but when i switched back to it even on miren the stupid thing reloaded the game that i was in the middle of playing... how lame is that?

lol so forget about playing a game and switch back and forth to a messenger to chat with a friend for example, it's not multitasking at all.
