4 pin jack plug to 3 pin conversion

Hi All,

I need to convert the OSF output using a 4 pole (connector) jack plug to a 3 pole female jack plug - I have tried using the 3.5mm jack plugs that just have the 3 connectors (ie. 3 pole) in the OSF handsfree socket but:-

1. the mic on the hf device won't work, and,

2. the plug sits strangely in the hole as it bounces back when pushed in

- presumably as the hf supplied with the OSF sits comfortably in the hole (it of course has 4 connections/poles) it is designed for this use, mine isn't.

As the hf I need to use works with my hearing aids I don't have much choice than to get or make my own converter.

I understand the layout of the OSF supplied jack plug is as follows :-

from tip to the base:

1 sound out Left

2 sound out Right

3 Mic

4 Ground

I hope I have this above layout is right. To convert to a 3 pole 3.5mm jack can connections 1 and 2 above be just linked? Would that be OK or do damage?

Maplins in the UK sell a 3.5mm 4-Pole Jack Plug (£2.15) that you can wire up yourself (soldering will be involved) but so far I can't find the 3-Pole socket, but they must exist...

Regs., Roy
