A Different Problem with Bluetooth and Parrot CK3000 Evoution

Hi Everyone, I am new here. I have been looking at other posts that discuss Bluetooth problems, but my problem seems a bit different.

I have a new Mini fitted with a Parrot CK3000 hands-free kit. By using an adaptor cable I am usually able to use the volume, "pick up" and "hang up" buttons on my steering wheel.

I have successfully used this kit with 4 phones - 2 Motorola and 2 Nokia.

I have successfuly paired my SF to the Parrot and also it seems to connect OK (albeit a little slowly at times).

What I CAN do:

1. Dial a number on the phone and the audio is played on the car speakers via the Parrot

2. Receive a call using the buttons on the steering wheel (but not make a call with them!).

What I CAN'T do:

1. Use the buttons on the steering wheel to make calls. This makes the hands-free pretty pointless as I have to dial on the phone.

I have v5.10c of the Parrot firmware. I tried to update it but their update tool is flaky - it won't even recognise that my laptop has Bluetooth, even though every other device I have does. So I am stuck with 5.10c at the moment. I have also tried the tricks of clearing the Parrot memory. Oh, and I have tried Bluetooth File Transfer, which simply does not perform for me.

My guess - for what it's worth - is that the SF is connecting only the audio profile, and it probably needs another profile to work. Why do I think this? When other phones connect to the Parrot, it gives out 2 beeps, about 5 seconds apart. With the SF, I get only one beep.

Any ideas? It does seem a curious set of symptoms I have!

I am using the release 9 "deorangated" Android 2.1 from Debastian.

Android 2.1 does not support dialling (particularly voice dialling) from Bluetooth. With appropriate additional software you may be able to do it with 2.1 and a WIRED headset, but not over Bluetooth.

Android 2.2 does allow Vlingo InCar (free in Market) to do voice dialling and other good stuff over Bluetooth.

BUT Android 2.2.1 (which we don't yet have) is needed to fix a specific Android Bluetooth bug (rebooting when you switch off Bluetooth, doh!)

Search the forum for Vlingo.

I don't want to do voice dialling over Bluetooth. I want to be able to call from my hands-free directly. The voice dialling is built into the Parrot hands-free.

But your phone needs to support the inputs from your Parrot :D

I won't pretend to know anything about this system but you could always give it a try! (2.2 is much better than 2.1 anyway and the app is free. What do you have to lose? :P)

Thanks for the advice. Vlingo looks like a useful product, but it doesn't do what I want to do - which is make and receive calls in the car with the phone in my pocket. And it requires the A2DP Bluetooth profile, which I suspect my 4-year old Parrot does not support.

I also need to use the button on the steering wheel to activate my Bluetooth hands-free and mute the radio - I don't see anything in Vlingo which would help with that (though I can't be too sure as the documentation on their website is very sparse).

OK, here's an update in case anyone is interested. I upgrading to Android 2.2 and there was very little difference (except it was actually harder to pair than before with 2.1).

Most of the buttons work only partially:

1) Hang-up - works OK, both for incoming and outgoing calls

2) Volume - works for incoming calls only

3) Pick-up - works only for incoming calls (have to make outgoing calls from the phone)

So the handsfree is fine - except I can't make outgoing calls!

I strongly suspect that the reason is that only the headset profile (HSP) is being connected and not the hands-free profile (HFP) - or perhaps vice-versa. But I have no idea what to do, and so far i haven't seen anyone else reporting the same problem.

Please note that the Parrot I have does not support A2DP.

...

Which 2.2?

There's quite a difference in where they have come from.

AFAIK, if you want to do voice dialling over Bluetooth then you need 2.2 (because voice dialling over Bluetooth is not possible with 2.1)

If anyone knows different ... please share!

The forum search will find you a lot of pre-existing knowledge.
