San Francisco hardware revisions

Recommended Posts

I bought my San Francisco back i november last year. Its a great little toy, but i suspect not the best built device. I have trouble with wifi signal being both unstable and weak....and the GPS doesnt work at all in any of the ROMs. Batterylife is also horrible. I need to charge it every 6 hour.

We know that ZTE replaced the OLED screen with a LCD, but what else have they done since it was introduced. Is the gps/batterylife/wlan problems resolved on the latest units?

I don't know the answer to your question, BUT if the gps does not work with any rom, it's a hardware fault, bring/send it back to Orange for a replacement

I don't think the UK version has changed at all apart from the screen.

Bought mine on 1st Oct, never had any wi-fi strength problems, gps somtimes takes a while to hook up when indoors, but fine when outside. Battery life also much improved when using flibblesans last couple of ROMs, get a couple of days from mine, if I dont play angry birds too much.

Thanks for responses above guys. This quote below may indicate the handset has gone through at least some "quality control" revisions. I have same sd card problem (in addition to my gps and wifi problems)

I have a further update on this topic that may interest some people.

My replacement handset had a display problem so I had to contact Orange again for a further replacement, imagine my surprise when I then inserted the SDHC card and got exactly the same problem. The phone again reported a damaged card and stared cycling through a mount/un-mount sequence continually.

Long story short, there is a hardware fault in the Qualcomm chipset for earlier versions of Blade ZTE that means they don't work with some higher speed memory cards (Note: for me the provided Verbatim 2G card and another old class 1 card from my Satanv still worked fine in the bugged handset even though the Kingston class 4 did not), the later versions have a newer chip set without this bug and work fine. Orange are aware of the fault and if you phone them and convince them that you have the issue they will send you a new handset (from a range of serial numbers with the updated chipset) by courier the next working day. To convince them I had to try the card successfully in a PC and also another Orange phone.

I hope this is of help to people experiencing the same problem.
