Wifi channels 12, 13 & 14 unlock under Froyo?

There is a hack for HTC Kaiser that unlocks wifi channels 12, 13 14 with a registry change.

Is there something doing the trick for Froyo 2.2?

I had all needed channels with Android 1.6 on my Dell Streak (bought in Europe), and lost 12 and 13 when "upgrading" to 2.2 (official version), which disappointingly appears to be geared for the US market only.

The "upgraded" Dell Streak doesn't have the regulatory domain option from:

"Settings>Wireless>Wi-Fi settings then touch Menu, Advanced, choose Regulatory domain" which lets you choose the number of channels to use.

Froyo is definitely not for the road warrior (outside US) as far as connectivity is concerned.

Cheers,

Alex

Are there versions of Froyo for the rest of the world? I cannot believe Dell is selling the Streak in Europe, Japan, and all the Asian countries with restricted wifi.

If you need the extra channels you will have to use a stock Dell rom.

It is not a froyo issue, it just a problem with the streakdroid roms. I have asked Steve if he could have a look at fixing it but I didn't get a positive response. :P

I used to have my access point on channel 13 as the wifi is quite congested around me but since using Steve's roms, I have had to drop it to channel 11.

A small price to pay for using Steve's great roms.

It's the stock roms as well, including the hk 322 build

I haven't been using anything else than a stock Dell rom.

It has to be a Froyo issue, since I had the channels above 11 on Android 1.6 before upgrading with the official Android 2.2 build number 12821.

Sys info further gives:

Baseband version GAUSB1A131800-EU

Kernel version 2.6.32.9-perf

Channels 12 & 13 worked on the O2 stock 2.1 rom. I must admit I haven't tried a stock 2.2 rom

I'm looking through the kernel source to see if its something there. but so far the bcm4325 appears identical between 2.1 and 2.2

Bcm4325 is the wifi chip we have, the source code for the 2'1 is on opensource.dell.com

I've found the stuff for the regulatory channels and it's set 1-14 so it must be somewhere else

this confirms it's a firmware issue, therefore solvable...

it doesnt confirm a thing,

it just means I haven't found out what's causing it yet..

Channels 12 & 13 are for Europe and 14 is only for Japan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels

So is it because the base rom is intended for the American streak?

I guess it can't be as the option for Regulatory Domain is there in the advanced wifi settings. It just that it doesn't enable the channels.

Thanks for having a look Fards

ha remembered the correct thread

try setting

ro.wifi.channels=14

in system/build.prop

and reboot

EDIT :::: looks like this doesn't work

it also appears I was wrong the regulatory domain setting is in the 322 build ( i presume also in the 319 build)

what does regulatory domain mean?

from home - menu > setting > wireless + networks > wifi settings > menu > advance > regulatory domain

bring up 11, 13 or 14 channels?

EDIT

i see melonman has already mentioned this
