Guest beegee1962 Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) This is the first ROM I want to share. It is based on the online kitchen from MoDaCo. I used the latest version, r8. It includes 'Link2SD' by bakpinar. THANK YOU PAUL FOR YOUR GREAT WORK! YOUR ONLINE KITCHENS ARE REALLY THE BEST! I removed most of the wallpapers, and some of the applications. The most important changes: Gallery replaced with the 32bit Gallery3D Mod - thanks to SilentMobius Notion Ink keyboard - thanks to gojimi at XDA developers with my own graphic mod ZEAM launcher as default - thanks to cloakt at XDA developers. iWnnIME - Japanese keyboard (stripped from a Softbank Japan HTC Desire by myself) Titanium Backup - thanks to Joël Bourquard - Market link. No ads host file - thanks to dnlgee DOS like bootanimation - thanks to original_ganjaman from XDA developers I know the ZEAM launcher is no longer under development. But for me it runs smooth and fast. I run it on my tablet with 8 columns and 7 rows on 5 screens and still the scrolling is very fast and nearly without any lag. If you don't like it, you can of course replace it with any other launcher of your choice. For the installation you have 3 options: For all options first download the ZIP file from here, extract it to a directory on your PC/MAC/Linux machine. Option 1 is for flashing the file with an USB cable:Ensure you have USB debugging enabled on your device (enabled in Settings->Applications->Development)If you are using Windows, your USB 'Android Developer Bridge' driver MUST be the one included in this download (use 'Have Disk' functionality in device manager to change if required)Connect your device to your PCAt a command prompt / terminal, ensure you are in the directory you extracted the files, and run 'install-windows.bat', './install-linux.sh' or './install-mac.sh' as appropriateWait for your device to reboot!Setup your WiFi ADB that it works through port 5555. Start your WiFi ADB app on your tablet. I prefer ADB over WIFI Widget, but there are other apps available.Write down the IP address the WiFi ADB gives you.Edit "install-windows-wifi.bat" (in the directory you extracted the files) and change line 13 => adb-windows.exe connect 192.168.1.15. Put the IP address of your tablet (from the WiFi ADB) instead of "192.168.1.15"Ensure you have USB debugging enabled on your device (enabled in Settings->Applications->Development)If you are using Windows, your USB 'Android Developer Bridge' driver MUST be the one included in this download (use 'Have Disk' functionality in device manager to change if required)At a command prompt / terminal, ensure you are in the directory you extracted the files, and run 'install-windows-wifi.bat'Wait for your device to reboot!Option 3 is for flashing through ClockWorkRecovery. [*]Rename the downloaded file to "update.zip" and copy it to the root of your SD card [*]Restart your device in recovery mode [*]PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP FROM THE MENU [*]Select the option to apply an update zip, and select the zip file you copied to your memory card [*]After successful flashing reboot your device If you get problems with the USB drivers or have other difficulties, check "Advent Vega - ROMs / Software Updates / Guides / How Tos, Links to ROMs, Flash Updates, Guides, Misc apk's" on MoDaCo. There you find help for nearly every possible problem. And as usual, I take no responsibility if you brick your device, delete all important data on your SD-card or get divorced because you spent more time with your Android tablet than with your wife. You do all this on your own risk! And here are some screenshots: The wallpaper you see here is the default wallpaper. I deleted all other wallpapers and there are no live wallpapers in the ROM anymore. Oh, I forgot another small graphic change: I changed the icons for home, menu and back in the notification bar a little bit. I didnt like the red color in the icons and changed it to green. Portrait view: The wallpaper is perfect dimensioned to match landscape and portrait modes. Thanks a lot to thedicemaster on MoDaCo for the tips how to achieve it. And of course after you install the ROM, all pages are as empty as this one. The widgets you see on the other screenshots are all installed from the market. Edited February 14, 2011 by beegee1962
Guest C_G Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Looks great! Good to see more and more alternatives to choose from. Will try this one as soon as my tablet is replaced! :P

Guest beegee1962 Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Are you for real ? If you are, how about hosting it somewhere like RapidShare rather than the distinctly bizarre route you've selected ... which seems to include two adverts and a Codec installation. Given your method of offering download I'm not entirely sure that I would install this ROM on my device .... Not sure what your problem is. I have 14 files for HTC Desire and WSL Xvision on my personal homepage. I have 2600 downloads so far and you are the first who has a problem with it. Yes, I am real! And I am sharing MY files on MY server, that is MY style. Like it or leave it. BeeGee's Desire & XVision

Guest Genieuk Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 THANKS beegee1962 for your efforts.
Guest Blasphemous Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) I have no problem but am stunned that someone would go to the lengths of creating a ROM only to distribute it in the manner you have... I appreciate the update on YOUR server status and I am very glad that it's working for YOU ... this said I treat the security of MY computers/network with a little more seriousness than 2600 others seem to. I also appreciate that you have changed the download method. Your style or not - I am dubious of any redirects to unknown servers followed by the links to download a piece of software I have no interest in. And I don't like it - so I will leave it ... Thank you.Jesus some people! :P If YOU wanted to just 'leave it' you could have done so but YOU chose to comment on beegee1962's choice of file sharing which therefore invoked a response from beegee192. But YOU didn't like the fact that he defended his choice and so it is now YOU who is now trying defend YOUR input into this thread. If YOU aren't interested, chose not to download, aren't impressed, then fine, move on. As I'm having a go at your inane input, you're more than entitled to have a go back at me........ get the message???? Edited February 13, 2011 by Blasphemous
Guest jellywobbles Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Thanks beegee1962 - looks very interesting! Downloading now, cheers :P

Guest simonta Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Got to say I agree with donalkeane (although I am usually not so direct so would have chosen a different delivery :P) Beegee1962, thanks for your efforts and for the repack. I'll give it a go later. Thanks also for changing the download method. I tried this earlier and backed out because of the ads and codec thing. Not a good thing to do but the direct download is just what the doctor ordered. Cheers all.
Guest Blasphemous Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Yup - got the message. As for having a go - I don't see a need to "wax lyrical" on this forum or to mix it up in words with you or anyone else. This site is where people with a common interest come to share thoughts and opinion - I expressed mine, BeeGee192 his/hers and so have you. Brilliant. My opening line/approach was harsh and unnecessary but, I was interested in the post - hence I viewed it. (it's nice to see another source of ROM's appear). However, the initial format of download was a concern and I expressed it - BeeGee192 obviously took this on board, as he/she, in addition to responding to my post, changed the way in which the download operated straight away. To set matters straight - BeeGee192 I apologise for the strength of my comments however, the reasons for them stand. Be happy, Thank you for the manner in which you took my comments donalkeane.
Guest T4ylor Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Thanks very much for this. Out of interest I no longer can find ifilemanager. Do I not need this anymore? Because this where I find everything which I have downloaded to my SD card.
Guest montage Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Loving the warez looking download page trying to trick people into downloading unwanted software NOT.. This is not the way this site usually rolls, so for ME take your rom and keep IT.
Guest TylerDurdenK Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Not sure what the fuss is about here, the site has very obvious links that you click and it simply downloads. If it's not clear enough, then HERE is the direct link.

If it's not clear enough, then HERE is the direct link. :D :D :) I am sorry that you guys do not like the way I distribute my files. Its just a page with some ads in between. There are no pop-downs, pop-ups or other hidden stuff. And that is the last sentence I post here about my way of distribution. And if you want to post direct links, no problem, but please post the correct ones. TylerDurdenk posted unfortunately a link to an HTC Desire ROM. ====================================================================== Anyway I would have expected here more discussion about the ROM itself, than about my way of distribution. ====================================================================== T4ylor, I deleted the iFileManager, because I am using Astro. You can download the attached file, extract it and push it to \system\app\ with ADB and you have iFileManager back. If you have a problem with ADB, I will see if I can make an installable file out of it.iFileManager.zip Edited February 13, 2011 by beegee1962
Guest montage Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Hardly ads.. it clearly says the rom information and clicking download takes you to an unexpected page, classic con
Guest Lew247 Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 I don't see people's problems The rom is hosted on HIS server, it's a direct download and if you click the rom ONLY the rom downloads, no added adverts, no clicking things to get to the download it's a simple process MUCH better than using rapidshare or anything else, where you have to click several things to download unless you have a premium account. Thanks to the poster for using his initiative and shame on you others for "having a go at him" when all he did was give the download link the best way possible. If you don't want to download it you don't have to - and you don't have to blast his way of letting you have the rom either If you do download it then a simple "thanks" I'm sure would be appreciated. I downloaded the rom by clicking his link and then clicking the rom link, I got no adverts no cons no nothing but the rom, and I've never communicated with the poster so it wasn't anything special for me! Yes there are adverts ON his page, but so what? do like I did and ignore them and just press the download link!

When this was first posted, the link did indeed point to a dodgy codec install. I clicked it, my protections flagged it and I backed out. The OP later changed it, which is why I thanked him. There are also warez links on the page which others are reacting to. It has made me doubt the wisdom of installing this.

I have tested my bluetooth gps .. runs fine with this update I have tested my 3g dongle........ runs fine with this update. BBC Iplayer is working and other flash sites. The only thing missing that I have noticed is iFileManager, but I am using astro so no problem there. So far so good and I really like the boot screens :D Yes the link to the codec could have been done without. Thanks for your work beegee1962.

As some people really miss the iFileManager, I will include it in the next release. What about the performance? Are you using the ZEAM launcher or another one? About the talks about the codec, I really don't understand whats happening there. The link goes to a Wordpress site. There are only download links and some advertisments there. I really don't understand why you get a request to download a codec. Does it happen when you click on the link in this thread or does it happen when you click on the download link on my website? I have more than 1000 downloads of HTC Desire ROMs and other mods and apps, and it is the first time that I hear about this. If I know what it causes I will be more than happy to remove it.
Guest elephantsoup Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) Using zeam launcher yes. I like the launcher bar (scrolling dock) on the right hand side and it is easy to add apps to it. Edited February 14, 2011 by elephantsoup

The problem seems to be that underneath the Description of the Vega Rom that you kindly made is a big button that says "Download". It's natural for people to assume that this is the button to use to get to the advertised file, but this is wrong as it's actually the link in the Headline that is the Direct link. It's a classic advertising scam to have what appears to be useful big button for the download when it's actually an advert. I'm aware that you probably didn't mean this maliciuosly but by not have a download icon of your own you look fully aware of where visitors are likely to go when viewing your page.. using a headline link doesn't make you look any better either... If you use the big download button then you are sent to an advertising website which trys to force a video codec download on you for Xvid no less, which is well known for being packaged with malware (Not the official website downloads though) Xvid is most likely downloaded when you get the codec but what else comes along is anyone's guess.

That's indeed an advertisement and has nothing to do with my downloads. I apologize and will remove the ads and contact the advertiser. I am really sorry, I never saw this before when I checked my site. It was not made intentionally and I didn't want to bother anybody with this false download button. Thanks to this community to make my website cleaner and safer.
