A quick search makes it look like no-one else has looked at this - maybe it's useless!

I was having a play with the charger that came with my san fransisco and a multimeter. It seems that the phone thinks the charger is "AC" rather than "USB" if the data connections of the usb connector are joined together.

I managed to modify a usb cable to do this too - The computer data end just goes to two wires that go no where, the phone data end are joined together. I presume that it'd be easy to damage a computer by joining the data connections on its end together. The data wires are usually green and white - power is black and red.

The phone now shows charging (AC) in settings/about phone/status. It feels like it's charging faster but I've not tried timing it.

I know my computer can supply more than the 500mA that the USB specification say as it works with unpowered disk drives etc, but again this is the sort of thing that could possibly damage a computer, so it's at your own risk! :P

Theres been a few posts about it already e.g. http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ything-special/

if the data pins are connected, the android draws 700mA of current, if they arent connected together it draws 500mA of current. So you'll get alot quicker charge times with the data pins short circuited

Be careful with that modified usb cable, depending on which end you short circuited, if you accidently connect it to a pc it could cause quite abit of damage. Always best to alter the charger itself to stop accidents occuring
