Guest iam:ruby Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 I generally consider myself to be pretty stupid when it comes to technology; I just about managed to unlock my San Fran and make it work on my O2 contract sim. (I haven't yet managed to work out deleting all the Orange crap off the phone though, lol). Texting, using the internet etc all seem fine, but when I'm on a phone call the other person tends to not be able to hear me after a while and then the call cuts out. Sometimes it can happen after a couple of minutes, sometimes a bit longer. It's so tedious having to re-call people to have a proper conversation!! I was just wondering if anyone had any clue as to what the problem could be/how to solve it before I really fall out with my San Fran and turn back to my trusty Nokia 5800!!
Guest That-Guy Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Could be a faulty phone, does it happen to every person you call? Does it happen in different locations? Also installing a custom ROM may help this, its worth a try anyway :D
Guest iam:ruby Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) Oh god, I hope it's not faulty :D. It seems to happen to every person I call, yeah. It's becoming really annoying. But like I said, I'm very untechnological, so installing a new ROM on my phone is just :S!! I've tried reading through the threads but it's all really confusing, lol. If I've unlocked it, and eventually do put a new ROM on it, surely Orange would never take it back as faulty? I just seem to have low or no signal quite a lot.. Edit: Just put in the orginal Orange sim it came with and the signal is still 1 or 0 bars, so I guess my phone is faulty. Any advice? :D Best taking it to a local Orange shop with the Orange sim in and telling them the signal is terrible on it? Or sending it back to Play.com as faulty? Typical I'd get a problematic one! Hi Ruby..I'm not sure about whether it's best to return it, or ask orange....but just wanted to add that I had the same signal problem, and my SF will STILL only keep a signal if I set it permanently to 2g only :D no probs after that x

Hi, had the same problem with Tesco which uses O2. Turned out to be a fault with the sim card. It was replaced and all worked fine after that. O2 signal is rubbish in a lot of areas anyway. Have found that turning off 3g and using 2g network only improves things considerably. Anyway, try calling them. Its something to do with the way your sim card registers on the network. Hope this helps.
Guest iam:ruby Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Hi guys, thanks for all your advice! Since I tried the Orange sim it came with and the signal was just as bad, I presume it's nothing to do with my O2 sim (it was fine with my Nokia 5800.. full signal most of the time!). So i've tried turning 2G only on and I've gone from 0-1 bars to 2-3, so hopefully this will work! Just to ask, will I see a significant difference between 2G and 3G? I'll give this a go anyway and see how I get on with it! x
Guest travellerscross Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) Here's a weird thing, but it's not just an O2 issue had the same with T-mobile before it joined Orange. The signal strength of the phone inside the house is poor. That bad, about 1 bar or nothing. Yet walk out the front door 'BOOM' the signal is at full strength. Just that few meters. Yet with the orange sim it's at full strength inside the house. I have got to the point now that unless I really cannot get a signal at all, I don't always rely on the signal strength as being a reliable guide. Even when no bars are showing, I still get the call coming through. I do know inside the house if I point the phone to a certain direction the I get full strength.
