Guest SSMERK Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) hey guys just wanted to give you guys the heads up , i was playing around with my ipad and my dell streak and was able to tether the dell streak to my jail-broken ipad. my jail-broken ipad has an app called iBluever its like a 5 dollar app but this app lets me tether my all the blackberry devices i own. i installed on mu dell streak an app called pdanet 2.45 its free . once installed turn it on go to the ipad and in the app ibluever turn it on you will see your dell streak once you are there click on the blue arrow on the right side of it and it should take you to an area where you have to enter the apn setting for your cell provider. example ATT apn setting i entered access point : wap.cingular dial number: *99# account: [email protected] password: CINGULAR1 chat script "select default empty " then on the ipad click on the arrow ibluever to go back to the previous window and tap dell streak and it should connect. allot of you might say well my phone has WiFi tethering true but that really kills the battery and i have found that the connection is really not that fast and i have downloading speed at 200kB i am getting 150kB via Bluetooth so i am really happy Edited February 14, 2011 by SSMERK
Guest SSMERK Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 HERE ARE SOME PICS THIS PROCESS ALSO WORKS WITH IPHONE AND IPOD TOUCH
Guest rlowell Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Just to confirm, SSMERK.. You have a phone contract on the Streak and you're using it as the 3G Modem for the iPad, correct? rlowell

Guest maskaler Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 i have a data plan on my account on my streak which i am able to tether to my ipad via Bluetooth Any reason to use bluetooth as opposed to the built-in WiFi hotspot?
Guest rlowell Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Any reason to use bluetooth as opposed to the built-in WiFi hotspot? Several reasons make Bluetooth the "better" technology for tethering. They are: 1. Less battery drain. 2. No extra (in the U.S., cell phone carriers actually charge for the WiFi hotspot app on Android) charge. But what SSMERK has done is rather ordinary on the Streak end of things. No offense, SSMERK. You can put PDANet on an Android device without rooting it. It will take the 3G connectivity and convert it into Bluetooth Dial Up Networking. That's what PDANet's explicitly written to do. The iBluever solution on iOS devices is more advanced/documented than similar solutions for Android. I'm looking for an iBluever-like program to put on my Streak. Then I can tether the Streak to my non-smart phone (where I pay for a modest data plan). I don't care if I have to root my Streak. But I want a Reverse BT-DUN connection (where the Streak receives Internet connectivity over Bluetooth). Anyone know where I can find that? rlowell Edited February 15, 2011 by rlowell

Guest tavella Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 I've been looking for the reverse BT DUN for a while. I've been able to get most of the configuration correct but pand gives me problems and will not create a device in /dev (I think hci0) in order to complete the process...
