Guest elvch01 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I know this is slightly off-topic, but my mobile phone contract comes up for renewal in a month and I'm looking for advice on what phone to get next. It's probably going to be an Android phone, although I've had 5 windows mobile devices over the last few years, but a plus-factor will be the ability to do wifi tethering i.e. use it as a wifi access point for my Vega. Does anybody have any thoughts on what might suit? My thoughts are for the Samsung Galaxy S or perhaps HTC Desire

Guest Lennyuk Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Try this topic as it asks the same question :D Desire is an old phone now, if your 2 options are the SGS and the desire go SGS all day long. If you can get desire Z or HD. Bare in mind Dual core phones will hit the market from now onwards, SGS2 will be out in March as will lots of new htc phones.
Guest spachal Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Hallo, it's always the question of price :], but what about a new Meizu M9?

Guest jellywobbles Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) What windows phone have you got currently?, most of the more recent phones now have to ability to run Android from the NAND memory .. I am running an HTC HD2 with MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.6 (Android v2.3.2 with CWM). Very fast and very smooth. Lots of NAND builds HERE! Cheers :D Edited February 14, 2011 by jellywobbles
Guest elvch01 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 My current phone is a HTC Touch HD running windows Mobile 6.1 - I've had 5 HTC phones so far and all have been pretty good. I quite like the look of the HTC Desire HD and can get it on a suitable monthly tariff.
Guest zzleezz Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Dont think I would look much further than the Nexus S right now. Although the last 2 people that I recommended that to have both bought Desire HD's! They are both very happy with them too :D

They are both very happy with them too :D Plenty of Android builds for the HD on XDA devs, The HD is pretty old these days in terms of the screen just don't forget if you don't like HTC Sense and your not into flashing your phone stay away from HTC phones, even with the sense disabled they still over-right the android versions of some of the more important apps

I've since played with WM7 in a shop and they must have fell on the release button by mistake after accidentally reskinning WM6.5.
Guest zzleezz Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I wouldn't get a nexus s with the Galaxy S 2 just around the corner. I can understand that, but I did qualify my statement with "right now". Wait for the Galaxy S 2 for a while till it drops then the next big thing will also be "just around the corner". Unless there is a phone that you are desperate for or one that is going to move the goalposts for all phones in terms of technology then there is not much point in betting on a phone that has not yet been released. Who knows, the Galaxy S 2 might be a pup!

Who knows, the Galaxy S 2 might be a pup! That is always the issue with technology - i.e. the next big thing is always round the corner and if I waited for everything that I thought I wanted/needed, I would never buy anything :D Thanks for all the thoughts & I will probably just end up buying whatever is "best value" on the day. I don't need too much from a phone, so the Desire HD (or similar) would probably suit
