Guest Dan Holliday Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) Hi Guys... The new Vega rom has been released at http://www.myadventvega.co.uk I hope this post makes sense, it's my first real post, and the first time ever that I've hacked a rom. Same rules apply, I'm not responsible for any damage that happens to your Vega, you try this at your own risk. I've based this heavily on what Paul has done, so thanks Paul. Install should be the same as Paul but I've only tested this using ADB on Linux (Ubuntu 10.04). Doesn't seem to work with clockworkmod This should give you everything Pauls update did, it includes the MCR, so OpenVPN works, and CIFS Manager. The new version of flash is soooo much faster and makes the BBC iPlayer a dream. The team at advent, seem to have fixed a lot of cool things. Well let me know what you think. I've just uploaded this to help out, I don't think I will be doing regular updates, all thought I will try to reply to any questions. PLEASE NOTE: You must upgrade to 1.09 first and then install my patch before doing anything else. if you don't know how to install please see Pauls post here http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...online-kitchen/ Ok good luck, and enjoy. Dan Download here :D To get full market access you need to log into the market, then reboot. All will work after that. r8a with small status bar r8a with normal status bar (Please be aware that I will host these files until Paul release a new rom then they will be gone) PS, can't get google maps or street to install. Keeps complaining that it runs out of space. SORRY :D Change History 14/Feb/11 - Initial Release 15/Feb/11 - Updated install scripts to those provided by Mird. (Cheers Mird) 15/Feb/11 - Update build.prop to give access to full market. (Cheers HunteronX) 20/Feb/11 - Fix full market issues (Sort of, required reboot after first time logging in to market) Latest Version of Busybox and added /xbin/bb path for support of some apps. Add all the missing apps such as Maps etc... Also included the vega flash update tool. Edited February 20, 2011 by Dan Holliday

Will upload shortly. First of all - hi to everyone on the forum. Been reading for quite some time while I waited for my Vega - arrived today! Just wondering is this rom likely to work better than me trying to mod my 1.09 stock? I'm working at the limits of my knowledge just flashing to 1.09 (successful, despite win7 x64 hating the drivers!) then found some apk's for ggaps + market etc over on xdadev. Moved them to SD card then installed them, managed to get market running but seems to be an old version (couldn't figure out how to get marketupdater working) so whenever I tried to DL an app it forced close :S Any info's/suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers, Xio

Cheers, Xio Hi, I think it will. I've used Pauls mods to get the market on there, I've been testing it all weekend, and had no problems. Just packaging it up for windows and mac users, then I will release it, should be up in the next 1/2 hour.

Or to quote @adventvega (twitter): To those asking, the changes from 1.08 are simply: Adobe Flash Player and Touch Panel Calibration Utility So my question is: wouldn't it be way easier/faster to just install these over MCR r8?
Guest Dan Holliday Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Thanks for sharing your work! As I understood, the only change in 1.09 is the addition of flash and the calibration app... Or to quote @adventvega (twitter): So my question is: wouldn't it be way easier/faster to just install these over MCR r8? There appeared to be a few more changes than that. For instance, the pull down status bar is now full screen by default. Apps that appeared small, such as OpenVPN are now full screen. However it maybe because I don't know what I'm doing, but my first attempt was to lift flash from 1.09 and move it to 1.08 but I couldn't figure out what files I should move across. There is a flash APK file on the 1.09 release, which did install on 1.08, but it resulted in flash just appearing as jumbled up letters. I spend most of Saturday morning trying to get it to work. I then decided to see what happened if I just installed Paul MCR... and hay presto it all worked. (Well most of it). It then took me an age to work out how to make the title bar small without crashing everything. Then as 1.09 has a little picture on boot, i thought I would mess around with that. Might be handy when you switch to USB Host mode, the boot screen now tells you that it's in Host mode. Cheers for your support, and let me know what you think.

Hi Dan, Tried installing the mod following the instructions on paul's post - unfortunately the "install-windows" file just gives me lots of "... is not recognised as an internal or external command" and doesn't install anything. Am I doing something wrong? Cheers, Xio

Try turning signature verification off. Or see if you can install using command prompt and running the appropriate script. Hope this helps

Please can you let me know how you get on as i dont have a windows pc to test on Hi again, So far have managed to get a google market app working via an update on xdadev, unfortunately some of the Ggapps don't work - so gave your newer version a go but still getting "not recognised as an internal or external command" messages. Will try to attach a pic. It does however get further than last time - it now gets stuck on "*daemon started successfully*" Thanks for all your hard work so far! Cheers, Xio

Guest Xiodor Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Have done a 1.09 flash and installed the rom addon just posted over on xddadev (would post link but not sure if it's allowed). Thanks a bunch to everyone on here for all their hard work though. Cheers, Xio

Will look into this and let you know
Guest dfghggfgfd Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Ok so something wrong with the windows install. Will look into this and let you know Linux-Install doesn´t work either. While the script has no errors every (adb) shell-command causes a permission-denied error. After the reboot there are several things not working, for example WLAN doesn´t work and it is also impossible to get root-access to the device.

Cheers, Xio Hi Xiodor, Please can you download http://www.etrixs.co.uk/vega/install-windows.bat.zip it a new install file for windows and see if that works. I can't get a Virtual Machine to detect the Vega correctly so can't test myself. Also, as it Valentines day this is probably my lot for tonight. Ta Dan
Guest Dan Holliday Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) Linux-Install doesn´t work either. While the script has no errors every (adb) shell-command causes a permission-denied error. After the reboot there are several things not working, for example WLAN doesn´t work and it is also impossible to get root-access to the device. Please make sure that you have just flash 1.09 from the vega website. Once that is done boot it up and wait for it to get to the welcome wizard. Once it's there fire up the script. This is exactly what I have to do, to get it successful. (Once or twice it decided to reboot halfway through on me, if this happens, turn the device off, then run the script, it will wait for the device, then turn the device back on. That should fix any issues) I noticed that a few times the script didn't report any errors, but didn't actually complete. If it doesn't complete the wireless doesn't work, and root access isn't allowed. If the script completes successful you should be able to see the following two line somewhere in your output 1 file pushed. 0 files skipped. (Some where near the top) and 1 file pushed. 0 files skipped. (Some where near the bottom) Sorry it's not as polished as Pauls rom, but I think it's because the new vega rom is a lot bigger and I it's causing space issues. But I don't really know, I'm new to this. Edited February 14, 2011 by Dan Holliday

I can´t start the script instantly after boot up, as a clean flash of 1.09 would start with USB-debugging disabled, so I first have to enable this, of course I have to accept the EULA and so on to get to the settings and enable USB-Debugging. After that I run the script immediately without doing anything else, but it won´t work. I tried to type the shell-commands manually and the first one not working is ./adb-linux shell "/system/bin/toolbox stop" As well as the other ./adb-linux shell ... commands, all say permission denied. All the push-commands seam to execute well. BTW: I have no Vega, but a PoV mobii so maybe there is the problem, but the 1.09 vega-firmware works fine. I used ubuntu in a VM to start the script, as my Host-system is Win7x64 and I can´t get the ADB-driver to work in windows7 (WinXP in a VM works fine too), but I don´t think should matter, 1.08 + r7 worked fine.

Maybe, i know it works on ubuntu for definite cause thats what i use. Yes i was quite supprised to notice that debug mode is on by default an then seems to get disabled once the launcher loads. Have you tried pauls updates before? Do they work? My scripts are basically a subset of his.
Guest mird Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Downloaded this ROM update earlier today and got it working. It was just a problem with permissions basically. It was overwriting /system/bin/sh with the one from the archive without chmod'ing to make it executable, so all further "shell" calls would fail. Makes sense it would work for your since the permissions would've been correct on your machine, but were lost once packaged into the zip archive. Anyway, I've updated all installer scripts to fix this and tidied up things a little. I can confirm it works on windows but haven't tested the mac/linux scripts (though they should work).r8a_installers.zip
Guest lydius Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 done it with mird's installers. everything seems ok, but for some reason i can not log into the market: "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server".

Yeah I'm having the same problem with the Market. Seems it's an issue with 1.09 rather than this particular package, not sure of the cause as yet.
