Hi,

I have an OSF/ZTE Blade unlocked which I am trying to use in Canada. I am trying to understand what my options are regarding choosing a sim card. It is very confusing.

Most of the providers here say my phone wont work. Apparently it will only work with FIDO or Rogers, and then only as 2G. Can someone explain this a little more for me? I really need a definitive list of what my phone supports and what the networks offer.

Apparently the Blade supports:

GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900

HSDPA 1900 / 2100 Mhz.

I had a look here: http://www.mobileworldlive.com/maps/networ...mp;cname=Canada and it seems the only company with any overlap to these frequencies is Rogers which offers GSM 850/1900. So I believe that means I can use 2G voice and data on 1900MHz with my phone. It seems there is no way for me to use my phone as a 3G phone in Canada? There are some that list "3G 850/1900", but I am told that will not work?

Thanks

Thanks

There's a comment about using in the US and Canada, perhaps this will clarify what you've already discovered. I'm not too familiar but as I understand it you're correct.

Thanks, I've posted my findings on that thread:

The phone can only be used on Rogers or Fido and then only as 2G. To do this it uses the 2G EDGE or GPRS for data and to get it working on Fido you need to turn on data roaming too (apparently due to the strange way Fido uses Rogers network).

I've got it working now and its recognised as a smart phone, and when I try and go online it gives me the page telling me to buy a data plan or day/week data pass.
