Guest TylerDurdenK Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Now Sony's Xperia Play (which is to run Android 2.3) is nearing launch, what do people here think the chances of the games being playable on other Android devices? APart from the hardware buttons, surely this phones ability is only software based!?

APart from the hardware buttons, surely this phones ability is only software based!? It doesn't play Playstation games. It plays Android games. It's just that Sony will control certain titles ported to Android through their portal which I guess will not be available for other devices.

Based on how well Sony locked down the x10 bootloader, they.really capable of making android very difficult to hack. And the x10 bootloader wasn't preventing them get extra sales revenue, game sales will really matter to them so I would hazard they'll put a lot of effort in making sure it doesn't get hacked! Guest thedicemaster Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 supposedly it WILL be available for other devices, just with an android 2.3+ requirement and crappy controls.
Guest McSpoon Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 SonyEricsson have been eager to use the Playstation brand on mobiles for many years but it has always been pointless without dedicated hardware buttons. It would be a poor experience on the Vega. The dual-press touchscreen would be insufficient so you would have to use a bluetooth game controller of some sort. The games would probably have to be framed in a 854x480 resolution window. No doubt someone will try hacking it though.
Guest jasonic8 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 supposedly it WILL be available for other devices, just with an android 2.3+ requirement and crappy controls. Yep, it's the 'Playstation Suite' initiative.
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 So far they've said they'll have PS1 games in the store. I'm really hoping that they'll release (or support) a joypad for devices without physical buttons. It would be great if there was some way to sync a Dual Shock 3 or Six Axis via bluetooth.
Guest Richard de Goede Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 you can link a Wii controller to a Vega with app :Wiimotecontrol been using that for a while with SNES emulator, works perfectly.. maybe it's possible to play the playstation games same way ?
Guest tomolewis Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 PSX4Droid V2 :D I bought V1 not paying for V2 rip off :D
Guest afraidofgoths Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 I bought V1 not paying for V2 rip off :D FPSE is on the market
Guest afraidofgoths Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 FPSE? its an alternative to psx4droid,
Guest warriorscot Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 wouldn't say I noticed a difference between 1 and 2. The biggest improvement would be customisable controls and an analogue button control but those are still missing so I wouldn't pay for V2. I even uninstalled it because for some reason it is of the belief it can play every file type.
Guest Bobbler Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Looks like this just got a step nearer :( http://androidandme.com/2011/03/news/plays...-tegra-devices/ Certification for Playstation access with Tegra2 requirements. Now I know this may just mean "only Sony Tegra tablets" so not going to get too excited by the news just yet, it's not like Sony are exactly well known for their open approaches and prefer to have a high level of control over format delivery (I lost count the amount of new formats for storage they have decided to go against everyone else with over the years!)
