Guest ftgg99 Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Ive been trying to install the Modaco rom all day, but no matter what i do, i cant seem to connect the device to adb while in recovery: adb devices is empty, even when windows device manager shows that nvidia boot device is connected. (And the driver provided in the package doesnt install either) I never see the recovery itself either - just a black screen that only seems to work half the time (despite this i was able to flash the official 1.9 image successfully using advent's script. What am i doing wrong?

What am i doing wrong? Hi ftgg99 Sorry if this sounds sarcastic, it's not meant to be. I would like to help you to help yourself, which, I hope you will agree, is good for everyone! What you're doing wrong, is not reading the instructions or reading instructions which are incorrect. In which set of instructions did you see that to run ADB, you must be in recovery? To run ADB, your Vega must be running normally with Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging selected. If your next problem is loading the USB drivers for ADB, there are many existing topics already here covering every combination in detail. FYI, you will not see anything on the Vega when you are in recovery or, to put it another way, if you do see anything, you are not in recovery. Good luck.

Let me reiterate - whenever i connect the vega via usb in windows and have debugging enabled, the device is invisible to the operating system. Ie, device manager shows no new connected devices of any kind and adb does not list any devices. The reason i spoke about connecting in recovery was because this was the only time the os saw the device...

Does it make a ding/dong noise on the PC when you connect it? If the answer to both is yes and it does not appear in Device Manager then it sounds like your USB Drivers are not installed correctly. In which case you need to do the following:- First, using Windows Explorer you need to go to the folder on your PC where you unzipped the files from Pauls download pack. In that folder will be a folder called 'usbdriver' and within that, one called 'usb_driver' and it is in this sub-folder where all the drivers you need are held. If when you run the 'install-windows.bat' command as instructed nothing happens or you only get say a couple of lines of text displayed then you will need to do the following:- Go to CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER and if you have the Vega connected by USB (with power on) you should see some new hardware called ANDROID PHONE and/or NVIDIA HARMONY. Right click on each entry and click 'Uninstall' then go to the top of the list where it displays your computers name and right click on the entry and select 'Scan for hardware changes'. The Windows new hardware wizard will then pop-up asking if you have a driver disk or not. Say you have and browse to the folder called 'usb_driver' described above and select it. The hardware should then be installed with the correct drivers. Repeat the 'install-windows.bat' command and hopefully this time a whole list of program output should appear showing it is working and in less than a minute it should all be done and your Vega will reboot itself. Then on Vega go into SETTINGS>ABOUT DEVICE and the Kernel Version should include the text ...v1.xx.... where xx is the level you are now at i.e. 04. Note:- You may need to do the above with every new release as it seems to be the only way of updating the drivers properly unless someone else can tell us a better way
Guest ftgg99 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 As i said, the vega was not visible in windows at all, untill i started recovery. I have however, fixed the situation using usbdview to uninstall the relevant drivers, install the modaco usb drivers and connect the adb bridge! Trying it now... have to wait for more battery, as it seems to have drained overnight
Guest Bertze Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 Same here, no visivle Vega in Windows.... Some help?
