Guest tdroza Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 (edited) A few days ago in the MCR ROM thread I asked about the possibility of updating the notification bar graphics to look more like the Gingerbread themed notification bar in the latest MCR SanFrancisco ROM. Paul replied to say that it shouldn't be too difficult, so I decided to have a go myself tonight. I've taken the framework-res.apk file from the MCR r8 ROM (with small notification bar) and replaced 40 icons under /res/drawable-mdpi-v4 with icons from the latest r11 ROM for the San Francisco. Not a big change, but I think it looks better (I'd still like to change the "back" icon if anyone has a suitable graphic to use?). If you want to try it out, you can grab my updated framework-res.apk from my DropBox here and then push it to your Vega using adb with the following. adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk Note that this will probably force you to the small notification bar if you don't already have it (and I guess you should only apply it if you're already on r8 as I'm not sure whether any other files in this package changed in r8 from previous versions). After installing, just reboot your Vega to make the changes take effect (I also found that I had to sign back in to the Market after the reboot). If anyone wants to know which icons I changed so you can mod your own framework-res.apk, just let me know and I'll pull them together in a zip. Screenshots before... ...and after... Guest mooman Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Much better, working great here! Just a note to others: this also replaces the bootscreen.

Ah yes, good point about the boot screen: This contains the Sega themed Vega logo on leather background. If you want to replace the bootscreen before you push the package to your Vega, just replace /assets/images/android-logo-mask.png with your preferred image.
Guest thewinst Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Thanks, I'm Liking your work! :D I already using a green colour schema for text highlighting so this goes nicley... Does anybody know, how to moddify the dropdown information bars, (in the thrid picture) To stretch the full width the screen and also change there colours to match the gingerbread color coding? I do recall reading something on here a while back, ive searched but now cant find it. IIRC it was the framework.jar that was modded. Cheers L Edited February 15, 2011 by thewinst

Guest thewinst Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Here is the notification bar modification topic on second page of search results :D Thanks trevor...That's the one. The issue we ssem to have here is that this is a moddified 1.06 ROM version of the framework.jar file. It would appear to be modded in some way by paul in the lastest 1.08 R8 ROM. I don't wonna overwrite/regress any of Pauls/Advents good progress... Ill ask in the R8 topic if anyone knows what has changed in this file since 1.06 and also if anyone has got it working in 1.08 R8... Sorry for the steer off topic :D
Guest stevesilk51 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Hi Guys, Sorry if i'm being dumb here but is it possible to just download " framework-res.apk " and just run it from the Vega to replace original, or must you adb push it - attached to PC? Thanks Steve
Guest Supercharged Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Ok, I ran into a slight problem. I adb pushed it, but said it failed due to 'no space left'. I rebooted it and now it's stuck. It shows 'Booting...' twice (with a brief period of black in between) and then it just makes the screen flicker a bit as if it's trying to find a file but can't. Did I do something wrong? I'm running the previous Vega firmware (not 1.09) on my Point of View Mobii Tegra with Paul's R8. I know I'll have to flash the firmware again, but thought I should mention it anyway. Was it my error that caused it? Edited February 15, 2011 by Supercharged

Guest Supercharged Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 You don't have to flash the firmware again. You can just adb push the original framework and reboot. I believe I couldn't, because adb wouldn't recognize a device anymore. I did flash the firmware again, but this time it was 1.09. Screen reacts a lot better now, so I'm not complaining. :D
Guest tdroza Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 My framework-res.apk is actually marginally smaller than the one in r8 so I wouldn't expect any out of space issues - my guess is that an adb push copies it to the device before overwriting the original file so you need twice the space during the copy. If my guess is right, then you could avoid the issue by deleting the original framework-res before pushing the new one. Can you still connect with adb to try to fix it without reflashing everything? Or, can you adb from the recovery menu (power off, hold back, power on, release back etc etc)? Someone who knows more than me about this can probably confirm...
Guest benniebob Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 I have copy/paste the framework.apk with root explorer, but than the tablet keeps rebooting. But I could connected the tablet to my pc, and than pushed the framework.apk with adb. Luckily the tablet booted correctly and I didn't have to flash the firmware. Grtz Ben
Guest rubbery Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Great work. Just as a heads up in case it helps anyone else. I initially tried to add on top of r7 and got the same error as Supercharged mentioned above. I then updated to r8 and tried again and got a message saying it was a read-only file system so i turned off the vega, turned it back on and tried the push again and it worked. Thanks again for sharing this with us, much appreciated. P.S. I really like the look of the widgets in your screen shots so I'm going to hunt them down now (you have very good taste!!)

Hehe, thanks! The calendar and facebook widgets are LauncherPro widgets (think you only get them with the paid version), and the twitter widget is part of the Plume twitter client (used to be called Touiteur - until Twitter asked them to change it). The wallpaper is a live wallpaper that comes with Beautiful Widgets (the sky changes colour throughout the day etc).
