Guest trevor432990 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 This happened to me yesterday and I found this useful tip on Android Forums (from mojomojo) "Open your browser, enter "about:debug" (without quotes )into the address bar, then hit the "Go" button on your keyboard—don't tap the search/URL suggestion that comes up. You'll notice that the browser now does, well, nothing. But hit your Menu key, choose the "More" option, then select Settings. Scroll down some, and you'll see a new collection of advanced options there, including a "UAString" option. Click that, then choose between Android, desktop, or iPhone user strings to change what browser web sites think you're visiting with. " SELECT "DESKTOP" In my case Dolphin HD did not have the UAString option but there was one called User Agent and so I changed that and all was well again :D

But handy tip for the default browser (cause I don't think it has that option and assume it is meant for that?)
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 You can easily switch between mobile & desktop browsing from a button in Dolphin HD. I think it might be a downloadable add-on?
Guest BigGregor Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 In dolphin hd its there under the standard menu. useragent: android, desktop, iphone.
Guest Jisonga Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 All sorted mate and default browser now in desktop mode. Thanks. Jason.
Guest Mogedwards Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Thanks for that. It was such an easy change. I know you can do it in Dolphin etc., but having tried all the optional browsers I decided I preferred the stock one, except for the inability to set it as a desktop. Thanks again.

Try reading the Pinned Topics section matey you need to reset/reinstall Flash probably by following the instructions here :D
Guest Jisonga Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Funny thing this android OS it contains all kinds of extra menus and options hidden away only to be found via those who want to find out more and are willing to press button after button just to see what happens. Its almost like the guys at google thought it might be fun to leave certain things hard to find just to see how hard some are prepared to search. Jason.

Because my Android ROM for my phone has this option always displayed. I will see if I can get this to be perminant on the Vega. Thanks.
Guest IndyUK Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks. Very useful tip. Although the 3rd party browsers have this option built-in, I never found the browsers to be as fast as the stock. Now I've set it to be recognised as a desktop version I get a better experience.
Guest POPE Mad Mitch Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 One thing that irritates the heck out of me is if i use the google search widget, it always take me to the 'mobile' version of the page instead of the classic. Fiddling with the settings on the page does nothing, i had hoped that changing the UAString would have helped, but alas not. any ideas ?

Haven't figured out a way to change it, I have a feeling you would have to change/hack the APK itself to do it. Would be nice to for a solution though!
Guest Anton2k Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 cheers been wondering how todo this for a while
Guest trevor432990 Posted February 16, 2011 Report Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) Did installed flash already, have yu tried to access the hbo site?. Seems like the www.hbo.com website is very flakey as the Americans would say. When you first open the site it seems to be downloading something in the background it then shows some text and blanks with an exclamation mark on a white background. Tried again and it crashed my Vega not FC just black screen twice so goodness knows what it's up to. If you go to this thread and search within it for 'hbo' you will find an interesting post by 'Rocafellanerd' who seems to have used every single browser available to access this site without success. I'd recommend the thread for an in-depth understanding of Flash but I'd have to say leave www.hbo.com well alone right now :D Edited February 16, 2011 by trevor432990
Guest Drizz Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Hmmm I cant get it to work, when i type adout:debug it just launches google search.
Guest ent.devil Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Hmmm I cant get it to work, when i type adout:debug it just launches google search. it's about:debug rather than adout:debug :D
Guest warriorscot Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 Some sites just won't work on desktop mode. It often happens on sites that aren't as good with browsers other than IE and maybe firefox it's a curse of site designers that code for the browser not by the standard. By changing to desktop mode it can break it on some browsers. In terms of documentation google do produce it but primarily its supposed to be for developers as android isn't an end product OS for google they provide it as a functional template and expect device manufacturers to do what they want with it themselves and provide user documentation. It's pretty similar to what microsoft do with windows CE.
Guest Dav0 Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 so is it best to browse on one or the other I saw another thread with someone suggesting android as user agent as the way to go?
Guest trevor432990 Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 so is it best to browse on one or the other I saw another thread with someone suggesting android as user agent as the way to go? Well I prefer Desktop because as it suggests you see the webpage displayed as if you were on a PC but as Warrior says if you find issues it is worth trying out the other setting to see if it fixes the problem. As an aside I've found in my Dolphin HD advanced settings menu a greyed out option for 'Website Settings' for advanced settings for individual websites which seems to imply you might be able to tailor the browser if you could only get it working that is. Anyone tried that yet? :D
Guest Jisonga Posted February 17, 2011 Report Posted February 17, 2011 I was hopping this change would sort out an issue i have with youtube.com website. When using the website rather than the app i keep getting this queue video banner that i am unable to close. I can still use the website ok but i find it really anoying anyone have any tips on how to remove this. Jason.
