Best *fully working* ROM?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

as the title says, no little "quirks" or "camcorder not working etc"

what is the best, most stable, flat out ROM to use?

what are the benefits/disadvantages of using something like MiUi instead of the default Froyo/GB UI?

thx

Any LCR (currently 2.0), as they are built on top of acer sources (binary). Everything works.

LCR-F 2.0 for sure. Everything works and it includes LCR Settings to give you the option to easily add more features, easily apply themes (and it includes some), easily remove stock apps. I have tried a lot but always find myself coming back to LCR.

FroyoMetal here (although development may have stopped, until maybe the Liquid Metal gets 2.3 Gingerbread from Acer)

Hello!

I wellcome this thread, tried many ROMS, want to go against common behaviour and promote the stock Acer froyo with Acer UI.

T&L here.

+1

T&L hands down.

Agreed T&L for both battery life and speed. You'll have to install the apps you want as its rather bare, but that's kinda the point.

Never tried T&L, the whole instructions to install camera software requiring a bunch of reboots to get working along with search app working with search key. Whole concept seemed like too much work to get set up. Plus, I can't really imagine anything smoother than LCR at 998MHz with all of the optimizations, available tweaks on LCR Settings, etc.

The instructions on installing the camera aren't that hard, actually. If it seems like a hassle, you can actually "integrate" the camera update.zip into the main one, and flash them both in one go. Just create a copy of the main zip, open it up, open up the camera zip, then copy the system folder from the camera zip and paste it into the copied main zip, overriding all files. Once done, just flash the zip (unsigned) you just made and you don't need to worry about the weird procedure.

I actually flash almost all my updates this way. The hardest part of creating an update.zip IMO is the update-script; however, usually if a certain folder is present in the root directory of the zip, chances are the update-script will flash everything in that folder, so, for example, if you have multiple patches, all patching something in /system, you can just combine them into one (if the patching order is important, the patching order should be the same as the order you need to combine zips: so #1 should be the copied zip, #2 should be the first merged zip overriding all files, #3 should the second merged zip overriding all files, so on and so forth) and flash them all at once.

Oh, and I've tried both LCR and T&L, and I have to say T&L has always been faster by a slight margin.

I concur that t&l is too much of a hassle. Metal was super fast and I'm waiting for the newer version. LCR is a good compromise but none of the LCRs are exactly fast.

That is a good idea. Might try that this weekend. But will definitely miss LCR Settings tweaks. Thanks.

I am also very interested on installing such ROM (full working ROM) but as I use the phone a lot I am worried about battery life.

From all those (Acer stock, T&L, LCR 2.0, etc) which one has the best battery life?

I am on Acer stock (did a fully wipe and reinstalled everything from the ground) and I have only average battery life, plus ONLY 58Mb of free RAM with my default widgets...

PS: is there a link for that T&L ROM already "patched"?

Just flashed T&L + OC kernel 960Mhz. The camera and the camcorder worked fine "out of the box"!

To mmick and dr3mz, I agree with the poll suggestion from gtechnik, want to add : 4.002.14 EMEA GEN1 is not oc, no apps2sd on ext2, a bit slow, neverthless everything works without hassle or fc (sometimes browsers fc at the beginning but never afterwards ) and battery life on normal use is in excess of two days.

Regards.

TBH, CM7 isn't fully working yet.

I would recommend to go T&L. Seriously, they're good!

My experience from what I've used and tested.

CM7 - Android V 2.3 Gingerbread - Fastest and most powerful but is missing certain functionality tha you may want such as: Camcorder, Runnings apps from SD, Bluetooth, and other small issues. In terms of power and 3D use, this is by far the best. Its UI and performance is much more smooth and easier to use compared to Froyo.

Smartbench C - 891 V - 1104

LCR2.0 - Android V 2.2 Froyo - Built off the ACER release. Its quick and speedy to respond but lower in overall performance. It comes with a ton of UI / visual extras.

Smartbench Average: C - 781 V - 805

T&L - Android V 2.2 Froyo - An extremely light weight version of Froyo with the option of the Gingerbread UI. Its stripped of all ACER crapware and anything else. It literally leave it up to you to install anything you want. This is probably second best in terms of overall performance.

Smartbench Average: C-811 V-812

I just recently upgraded from a Rogers HTC Magic to an Acer Liquid E. I had a ROM installed on my Magic called Diet Gingerbread, which was very much like the T&L Froyo Rom, except for Gingerbread. It had all features working too. I was hoping to find something equivalent for the Liquid E, but I guess the T&L will have to suffice until a fully working gingerbread ROM comes around. I love having a clean/empty/fast/fully functional ROM installed, and just downloading what I want. I hate added bloat.

Anyways, I was a little surprised to see that the development for the liquid seemed to be less advanced then the development for the magic, seeing as how the magic was an underpowered and outdated phone lacking numerous features in comparison. I'm assuming that this might have to do with the numerous official android releases for the magic.

I love the T&L ROM, so far extremely fast + light!

What could be improved:

- no OC on T&L kernel

- still takes quite some time (less that Acer stock) to fully boot

- no sound DSP included on the ROM

- no metal Camera included on the ROM

- sometimes we have to reboot to be able to use the GPS (despite being active and on). Also occurs on Acer“s ROMs.

- still no Android 2.3
