Is SD card format needed, when replacing ROMs??

Hi,

Can anyone share his thought regarding this issue. I would like to test several ROMs (now that r10 future is vague). do I need to format all my partitions before replacing ROMs (i.e. change from HD ROM to other HD, change from d2ext to d2we etc.)

I'm doing a full wipe (of the 3) but shall I format my ext4 and my FAT32 partition first?

please advice

thanks

no need to format, full wipe is enough.

edit:

when you say wipe - do you mean delete all files? there is no need for that, just in the same recovery you use to flash the rom select "wipe data".

Thanks,

I'm doing the Recovery wipes, I was wondering if you delete (format) the card prior to set up (flash) new ROM, to ensure that no "garbage" is just left on the card (i.e. installed apps, or folders with pictures or music)

As I understand from your reply there is no need.

thanks again.

If you used A2SD or Data2Ext or anything like that, you need to wipe/format the ext partition. You do NOT have to format the FAT32 partition, however.

But typically I delete everything except my music, photos, and some backup files before flashing a new rom. Most apps don't remove the folders they created on the SD card when uninstalling... and just like my windows machine, after a while you are left with a lot of unnecessary folders under "Program Files".

Most of the games and some apps use the FAT partition for data and none of them (or at least none that I've ever used) delete that data afterwards so formating the partition is recommended if you want to have a clutter free card but it's not needed.

I do just what khtse said... Save the needed files and erase the rest or usually just backup the data and format the card.
