No sound

My wife and I each have a ZTE Blade since late last year. Both have the Modaco custom ROM 2.1.r4 ( I know I need to get 2.2 installed :D ) and both have OLED screens. A few days ago her phones speaker phone stopped working and of course I assumed she'd done something daft like mute it or turned down the volume. Since I looked at it now the ringer no longer sounds either

No matter what I try I cannot not get any sound to come from it. What follows is what I have tried ...

- muted the sound and tried playing music player

- unmuted the sound and tried playing the music player - full volume

- tried calling the phone

- tried to answer the phone using speaker phone

- turned the phone off and tried the above again

- removed the battery and tried the above again

- downloaded z-device-test and speaker settings are pretty much the same between her phone and mine though the differences being that microphone mute and music active is true

I'm a wee bit reluctant to return it as I suspect we'll get a TFT version returned. Also the hassle of dealing with Play.com is something I'd like to avoid.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions to rule out any issues with the software?

I have searched the forum but the only issue I could find with sound was volume not loud enough or problems with Skype. There does not seem to be much else to try. My wifes, previous phone, a Blackberry went the same way and after spending a fair bit of time messing with it, it turned out to be faulty hardware. Can she really be unlucky twice with this !

I assume you've tried a long press on home and made sure that the ' sound is on' option says that rather than ' sound is off'....also search this forum for the audio boost zip. (incase for some bizarre reason something has set itself to zero. Otherwise, installing 2.2 its your only option.

Make a nandroid backup first.

I recommend updating your clockwork mod (installing the zip via clockwork mod). Then just place the new zipped ROM in your sd card, and install zip file from

sd card in clockwork mod. (audio boost zip and clockwork mod are done in the same way) don't worry about any steps previous to this, once you've used clockwork mod, you don't need to do anything with fastboot or adb again.

If this fails, its probably a hardware fault :/
