starting fastboot usb protocol

48hrs ago I was in process of transferring a film to vega for daughter to watch on holiday when got stuck with backlit screen with starting fastboot usb protocol message. Ive spent all my spare time since then trying the various fixes on here and other forums but to no avail. I was running r6 with PP on top of quite happily. I flashed that no problem but now I'm trying to flash v1.09 to start again but am getting the message below when I try to run vega firmware. I've downloaded and unzipped the vega drivers from myadventvega. When updating drivers device initially showed as NVIDIA Android Fastboot Device as the only compatible hardware. Tried like this and get unknown device when run after updating drivers. I then unchecked compatible box and selected NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices and then installed vega drivers but again UnKnown device found. Am I missing something really simple (or complicated!) or have I broken my baby?

Cheers in advance

bct --setbct --bl bootloader.bin --configfile flash.cfg --odmdata 0x0b0c0075 --c

reate --go

Edit: I think Ive fixed her did the same as before but with more beer! :D

Firstly, no-one has yet broken a Vega by using software alone so you needn't worry about that side of things. What OS is your PC running and what steps do you take to connect the Vega to the PC via USB? It sounds like you have not installed the drivers correctly to me so I shall pass you these instructions pending your answers to the above:-

Using Windows Explorer you need to go to the folder on your PC where you unzipped the files from Pauls download pack. In that folder will be a folder called 'usbdriver' and within that, one called 'usb_driver' and it is in this sub-folder where all the drivers you need are held.

If when you run the 'install-windows.bat' command as instructed nothing happens or you only get say a couple of lines of text displayed then you will need to do the following:-

Go to CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER and if you have the Vega connected by USB (with power on) you should see some new hardware called ANDROID PHONE and/or NVIDIA HARMONY. Right click on each entry and click 'Uninstall' then go to the top of the list where it displays your computers name and right click on the entry and select 'Scan for hardware changes'. The Windows new hardware wizard will then pop-up asking if you have a driver disk or not. Say you have and browse to the folder called 'usb_driver' described above and select it. The hardware should then be installed with the correct drivers.

Repeat the 'install-windows.bat' command and hopefully this time a whole list of program output should appear showing it is working and in less than a minute it should all be done and your Vega will reboot itself. Then on Vega go into SETTINGS>ABOUT DEVICE and the Kernel Version should include the text for the level you are now at.

Note:- You may need to do the above with every new release as it seems to be the only way of updating the drivers properly unless someone else can tell us a better way

Just ran into the same prob! My advent vega hangs on startup and only displays "Starting Fastboot USB download protocol". I have followed your steps above, made sure NVIDIA USB Boot recovery driver is installed and displays in pc device manager, but when I launch 1.09 advent ROM I keep getting the same as you did i.e

bct --setbct --bl bootloader.bin --configfile flash.cfg --odmdata 0x0b0c0075 --c

reate --go

Nvflash started

The only thing I can think of is I'm not going into recovery mode successfully on my vega (I do the recovery procudure and go into the same black screen with "starting fastboot usb download protocol" ), am I right to assume that.

I have also tried installing Pauls usb drivers and doing the same. no luck.....

what did you do to get it to work?!!? would love your input!!

if you get something on screen when trying to reboot into recovery you haven't. Power down by holding power key. remove the power lead if its in). (Blue light should go off) reinsert power lead. Press and hold back button (2 sec) then power, should get bleep from PC for USB connection. you are then in recovery

Hi just kept going as per instructions making sure I had the right USB drivers deleted and loaded and suddenly APX device appeared in device manager and all loaded ok. One of the other posts (searching on fastboot hrought it up) mentions a USB utility you can download. Sorry I cannot be anymore specific it did seem a bit hit and miss at the time.
