Guest HelloDave Posted February 10, 2003 Report Posted February 10, 2003 OK, this isn't really a fix as such, and probably no one bothers to write IMelodies anyway, but just in case, here goes! If you go to compose new MMS, then edit...sound you get the choice to compose a new IMelody (a ringtone type tune that plays in MMSs) but becuase of some genius who wrote the software you can't actually change the tempo of a melody. You can get to the tempo setting by going to menu...options in the IMelody editor, but once you've selected the tempo field you can't actually change it becuase the back button takes you out of the options screen, and entering any more numbers takes the tempo out of range and you get an error. Anyway, if you desperately want to change the tempo the only way i've found to do it is to use the Win CE remote display viewer to control the phone from your PC, and then use the backspace key to clear the tempo box so a new value can be entered. Clearly the MMS software was mainly designed on the emulator, where the backspace key does work!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 10, 2003 Report Posted February 10, 2003 I did'nt even know you could do a melody, Cheers Andy.
Guest Deemon Posted February 10, 2003 Report Posted February 10, 2003 will it play Imelodys as ringtones ????? ive got a few from my old t68 days.. ok i cant find a way to do it... whats the point of composing them if you cant use them ?
Guest HelloDave Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 I think you can only use IMelodies as tunes in MMSs, nothing else! There's probably a way to convert them to MIDI, but I don't know what it is!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 I was looking into IMelodies on my phone (DK update) and on mine you can alter the tempo. If you press menu you get an options screen to change the volume, style and tempo when I changed my tempo and clicked done then went back into it it was still the value I changed it to. Also in menu you have effects menu as well which gives you loads of different options including turning the LED, backlight and vibration on and off.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Just tried again and saved the file, the tempo stays at whatever I change it to. But I can only listen to the tune when I am in compose , when I try to play it through all-explorer I just get an error.
Guest zenabi Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Non-DK Updated SPVs: You can change the tempo by editing the .imy file in Notepad. I think the MMS editor is the only program that can play the files. awarner: Do the effects actually work with the DK update? With a non-updated SPV, nothing happens when someone sends me an MMS with effects, and if I compose an MMS with effects and send it to a compatible phone (eg T68i) it doesn't work on the receiving end either...
Guest HelloDave Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 if I compose an MMS with effects and send it to a compatible phone (eg T68i) it doesn't work on the receiving end Probably up to the manufacturer whether effects are supported, but it's strange that the effects don't even work on the SPV!
Guest Pidder Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 I have no clue what you are talking about in here  With my version i can only take AMR sounds through the mic. I have no option to write an Imelody in the mms->edit->sound-section. Is my (swiss) update this old? Oooooouuuch i want Imelodies too :)

Have not had much time to play with it but when I do I'll let you know. Also I have never sent an mms yet  How long have I had this thing now :)
Guest HelloDave Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 With my version i can only take AMR sounds through the mic. I have no option to write an Imelody in the mms->edit->sound-sectionThe option isn't in the list on the sounds screen; you have open the "edit...sound" section, so that "record amr" is on the screen and then got to menu...new Imelody. They are a bit crap though - I still haven't found a way to change the duration of each note individually. Also I have never sent an mms yet  How long have I had this thing now A friend got a 7650 on Orange last week - finally i've got someone to send a few free MMSs to! :)

This menu doesn't react on my phone (the edit and the menu button seem to be locked). I can only record a amr and go back (with the back button) to the previous screen (even if i wait for minutes or do the power cycle). :?
Guest Pidder Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 go back (with the back button) Nooooo, i can't even do this... i have to press the home button to get "out"... it hangs :)
Guest HelloDave Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 Hmm, well we all know the MMS software is sh*te! :)
Guest zenabi Posted February 12, 2003 Report Posted February 12, 2003 I still haven't found a way to change the duration of each note individually. Highlight a note and press the 8 key to change the note's duration. Also, the 9 key dots the note (makes sense if you can read a little music).
Guest frijj2k Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 Imelody is accessible from new MMS/Sound/Add on my phone and the Sound Manager from the DK update. But as stated.. the vibrate, snd flash led/baclight doesnt work... :-( never mind Dave
Guest HelloDave Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 Highlight a note and press the 8 key to change the note's duration. Also, the 9 key dots the note (makes sense if you can read a little music). Nice one Zenabi, thanks; I've been wondering how to do that for ages! I thought not being able to change the duration of a note was stupid, but then again so is having to compose an MMS to take a photo, so I just assumed it was another M$ bug! :) Being able to dot a note as well is even better.
Guest zenabi Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 No problem, just beware if you're writing a long melody, sometimes it just hangs when you are composing so save regularly!
Guest HelloDave Posted February 16, 2003 Report Posted February 16, 2003 I've managed to press back while composing before, which deletes the whole melody  - damn inconsistent interface!
Guest Dabro Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Highlight a note and press the 8 key to change the note's duration. Also, the 9 key dots the note (makes sense if you can read a little music). I've found that in addition to changing the note length and dotting it you can cycle through the octaves by pressing the 0 (zero) key and make the note sharp or flat by pressing the # key (again, this cycles throught the options). Though it does seem to have a problem when you want to make a note flat that doesnt have a sharp (such as E). You just have to select the note below and make it sharp (i.e. D sharp = E flat). Hope this helps - though the tunes still sound like crap :)
Guest HelloDave Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Well, the update fixes the tempo problem! You can now change the tempo of IMelodies on the phone, as the back key actually does what it's supposed to! Now why didn't EZOS notice that in the first place... :)
