I am currently studying for a BSc (Hons) in Business Computing. I am in my final year and undertaking my dissertation. The title of my dissertation: "Is Open Source Better than Closed Source for a Mobile Operating System (OS)?". The aim of this dissertation is to establish if an open or closed source mobile operating system (OS) is better for the consumer. The linked questionnaire is designed to gather information about experiences with mobile phones.

I know, its little off topic, but I would really appreciate if a few people from MoDaCo filled the questionnaire out

Opinions on Open and Closed Source Mobile Operating Systems

Thanks

Where are you studying out of interest? I got a BSc(hons) Computing from the OU a couple of years back. Was well worth worth it in that I am now a software engineer.

I have a proposal: in the last section you can add a field "reliability" (not like HW reliability, but more like doing the job fast & correct on demand, every time when needed) or simply a free text field...it would require some work afterwards, but you can get a better input. just an idea.

.stu, the degree is through University of East Anglia (UEA)

DLCI thanks for the feedback that's a great idea, the reason I did not include a text box is it leaves it open for anything to be entered as a firend of mine found out last year while doing a questionnaire.

Thanks again both of you

Got to say, I filled in the Qs for you but I can't see how it's going to help you. It will give you a (very small) sample of who uses what but how will it help you answer the question "which is better?", to which the correct answer is "it depends"? Each has strengths and weaknesses which change according to the users perspective, the application the OS is used for and the environment in which it's used.

For example, if I'm in a high security, enterprise environment, I'm going to be looking at RIM and Windows. If I'm in a design agency, probably Apple. For consumer, small business and geeks, Android all the way! But that's just me.

Reckon you need a lot more questions starting with big open ones and narrowing to specific closed ones.
