Guest miker01 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I had found this before as I couldn't connect wirelessly, opened the port and everything was fine. Now my search-fu has deserted me...... It seems I clicked on "factory reset" rather than "reset" when my router hung....... [note to self "don't work, SLEEP] So PLEASE could someone give me the usual port number to open? THANKS in advance! Mike

Guest miker01 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Port for what? The phone will not connect to the router [the WPA key IS correct]. I had this problem when I first got the phone and did a search for the solution. In a thread someone said open a TCP port on the router and gave a port number. I did this and since then everything is fine. However due to the reset I need it again, as once again I cannot connect to the router.
Guest jr866gooner Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 go thru the history of your posts in your profile......it may help trace back when you had the problem

Guest Lew247 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Good idea, but I found the thread elsewhere... well in that case why not share the thread location (or the solution) then if anyone else gets the same problem they can find it simply enough

Guest cmberry20 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 Ports are irrelevant. Ports are only need for incoming/outgoing data for certain programs. By what you describe you are having trouble 'connecting' to your router. By any chance, you haven’t got a Netgear router have you? And does your phone connect if you switch the router on & off again via the power.
Guest Lew247 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I personally cannot see how opening a port can make a difference to a phone connecting to a router or not but I won't say it cant. I had problems when in Ireland recently it wouldn't connect to a wireless router unless wep security was enabled. Having no security at all and it just refused to connect
Guest rjm2k Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I also doubt it's anything todo with ports, unless there's something about your network which you haven't mentioned. Anyhow it's a router problem rather than android, so what router do you have and what software do you have on it?
Guest Qwertzycoatl Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 There is always the option that this is MAC address control that was being referred to. Although that would suggest that the router is now either set to its default security settings (on a label somewhere on the router) As mentioned....ports and opening them is all to do with NAT rules behind firewalls.....there should be no need to open a port to connect to wireless inside your own network....that's what the security is for. I "suppose" it could also be the port 8080 option which some/most routers have to enable access over the internet but again taht won't do anything to assist you in connecting wirelessly. Like Lew said....it could just be that the security is all reset and the blade won't connect to an open wireless. Try setting up your security options on the router again for your wireless and see if that helps.
