how do i edit build.prop

Sorry if its been answered before but i did check and couldnt find an answer, all i want to know is how do i edit the build.prop? i opened up the zip file in winrar, then clicked on the build.prop and tried to add a line to the bottom, but it would not type anything. anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

you need to download notepad++ to edit code line.

extract the zip, edit the file, re-zip it, turn off signature verification when you flash.

you can also edit it on the phone using rootexplorer, that's the easiest way, but it's a paid for app, or there's adb.
