Adding media to SD card

Recommended Posts

Hi, my first post

I am new to the world of Android and have successfully installed custom ROM's (JJ RLS9) on 2 Orange San Frans.

I am having an issue adding media to the SD card. When I connect the phone to my PC I don't get the option of mounting, the phone just charges. I have read that this can be an issue for some but have got around it by adding ringtone files using ClockworkMod Recovery. However, I really want to add quite a number of jpg images as well as other stuff, and I was wondering if there is any reason why I can't do this another way, by removing the SD card and using a card reader? Is this possible, or would it be unsafe? Would I have to unmount the SD card first even if the phone is turned off?

Sorry for newb question but I love this phone and don't want to mess it up.

TIA

When connected with the USB, is there a pop-up about the USB in the notification-bar?

Yes, it's safe to remove the SD card if you go into "settings"-->"Storage" and then "unmount SD card" before you pull it out. You don't have to turn off the phone or anything else

No I don't get the pop-up. I did get it before I installed the custom ROM so know what to look for but for some reason after installing JJ the PC no recognises the phone, it just charges, this is on both of the San Frans I have.

Bit of an annoyance, but I can cope if I can get media on the card by another method, thanks.

Hi there,

check the notifications at the top. I don't get a pop up any more, just need to scroll the notification down and "allow" it from there.

You have to power down the phone, this will automatically unmount the card.

It is ok to transfer files as you suggest, but MAKE SURE all transfers are complete before you remove the card from your reader.

Hope this helped.
