Guest gamba66 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) Hi guys im a first timer to android and I just bought a ZTE Blade (luckily the amoled version) used for 150 euros in germany. Just got it via mail a few hours ago Now the guy already has the phone rooted and clockwork recovery is on it too, he currently flashed the jellyfish rls9 on it and its working pretty good So far so good, but I want to get the maximum battery life out of it though and since ive looked at the results of your poll i want to flash fillysans flb on it. My question is, is there a noticeable difference? And ive also read about HW Acceleration, its turned on in FLB and jellyfish, is there a way to turn it off and does it increase battery life? Also are there any recommended profiles for underclocking What I have done so far is installed the standard drivers from Orange and thats about it. Am i correct that i only have to make a backup right now in clockwork recovery, then wipe jellyfish and then just flash the correct oled version of FLB (just extracting the .zip to the root of the sd) Thanks guys, im just asking because im insecure about it, dont wanna brick my smartphone now and ive read through some tutorials Edited February 23, 2011 by gamba66
Guest wbaw Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) JJ9 is a good rom, it just has a small bug that causes a lot of 'partial wake' use which drains the battery. A fix was posted in the JJ9 thread, but it's about halfway through somewhere. With that fixed the battery life on JJ9 is fantastic. HW acceleration doesn't seem to affect battery life. SetCPU can be a bit buggy, the profiles don't always work well. I find it's best to just set the max at the highest speed your phone can do without crashing (mine is 710mhz, ymmv) & the min at 122.8. If you want to properly underclock it, I'd say not to set the max speed below 480. Your method for flashing a new rom is correct & there's no chance at all of totally bricking your phone with clockwork, at worst you'll have to flash another rom if it doesn't work. If you take a nandroid backup first, then you can always go back to that. If you have any settings to save (game progress, wifi access points, etc) then use Titanium Backup for that & you'll be able to restore what you need on your new rom. Edited February 23, 2011 by wbaw
Guest wbaw Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 http://android.modaco.com/content-page/327...0/#entry1580787 That's the fix for the partial wake bug in JJ9, it greatly improves battery life.

The battery life on JJ9 may be considered "fantastic" after that fix, however, the rom itself is not. You'd be much better off upgrading to FLB Froyo G2, as Flibblesan provides almost weekly updates now, and fixes nearly all of the issues that people post in the thread. It's a much more stable, much faster rom.
Guest wbaw Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) I disagree. I have 'upgraded' to flb-froyo, I'm just not sure it's really an upgrade. I have more wifi problems on flb-froyo than on JJ9 & I'm not seeing the amazing battery life that others are getting, in fact it seems worse than my fixed/modded jj9. It's certainly no faster or more stable. I'd go back to JJ9 if I hadn't spent a load of time setting flb up, if there wasn't going to be a flb-froyo 10 (which should fix the wifi), or if the CM team weren't fixing the bugs in CM7. The partial wake issue was my main problem on JJ9 & that's fixed by taking a couple of files from seb's decrossed rom. The only thing I'd miss if I went back is the notification bar power widgets. If I was gamba, I'd just fix the partial wake problem & wait for CM7 RC2. Edited February 23, 2011 by wbaw

Yes, because fixing the wifi MUST'VE taken ages... my wifi works fine, and the vast majority (everyone except you, it seems) notices the faster speed of the rom, and the much much better battery life. Quadrant score on r8a was 540, vs 440 for JJ9. There are also root hang issues, and network error issues throughout JJ9. I think it'd be wise for gamba to go with flb, as RC2 isn't going to be much more stable than RC1 (as it's still not a stable release) and will still have possibly unwanted cyanogen customisations.
Guest JimJam707 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I got my Blade today aswell, and after trying all of the ROMs on this forum, I ended up sticking with Flibs Froyo ROM. Seems to be the fastest, and I know flib from the Pulse forum XD
Guest gamba66 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) thanks for the fix guys, ill stick to jellyfish first thanks a bunch! maybe ill move on flb later btw how do i install the fix? i cant seem to find those folders like i said im totally new to everythign Edited February 23, 2011 by gamba66
