Guest MonkeyBoy451 Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 So, I just got my dock through in the post and got it unboxed straight away and grabbed the Vega from its case to get it all setup on my desk, and then something struck me! The 3 USB ports on the back of the dock are all for the addition of extra periphs, but I am still going to have to clutter up my desk with an extra cable sticking out the side of the Vega, so that I can tranfer files via USB or to do any sort of 'dev' work with it such as flashing new roms or ADB work. It would have been better if the usb on the side of the Vega had been passed through the dock connecter to at least one of the USB ports on the back of the Dock for this purpose. I could have left everything plugged in on my desk and just needed to slot the Vega onto the dock to flash something or transfer something... Thoughts?

Have you actually tried to connect your PC through the dock, it seems strange that it wouldn't connect if you did as a USB port that will work with peripherals should work with a PC. Any USB is what it says on the tin - Universal

Guest warriorscot Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 You should try adb wireless. Not good for everything but still useful for most things.

Yep was looking at that option anyway, thanks. Just wanted to get a discussion going about the Dock and my perceived short coming or missed design/functionality opportunity. Hopefully @vegaaccs might see this and chime in with the thoughts on this from the manufacturers side.
Guest yabbas Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Hmmm, dev purposes would've been my reasons for going along with the Vega dock. So the ports are dedicated "slave" ports - no need to switch kernels now to support extra peripherals? [i guess it's a pro - I didn't like the idea of Kernel switching. The one disadvantage for me is that I used to charge my mobile phone OTG  ]

Any USB is what it says on the tin - Universal If you insert a usb storage device into the side of the vega and open ifilemanager the usb device files are in the system_usb folder, if you plug the usb storage device into the back of the dock, open ifilemanager, the usb storage device files will be in the docking_usb folder.
