Noob question regarding MMS and data

First post, new to smart phones, in fact mobiles with more than a simple call and text function so please excuse the stupid question.

Can anyone confirm what I now believe to be true is that you can only send MMS with data enabled. I can text without data enabled but I can only send / recieve MMS with data enabled.

I have been trying loads of settings in various threads but as I have stated above no joy if no data active.

You are right in saying a normal text doesn't need data enabled...

By a MMS, do you mean one with pictures etc? (sorry for my stupid question)

If so, then you cannot send/receive an MMS without data enabled, cos it sends more info.

Thanks for that, yes I am trying to send pictures but I can only do this with data enabled.

I have been trying without data enabled and pulling me hair out for no reason.
