Guest hunk74 Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) Recently added Dark Tremors a2sd to my config. -Cloickwork flash utility -Custom Rom CM6.0 (Flava = Tom G.) -g-apps -DT a2sd Had some problems initially when I enabled cachesd in DT a2sd (random reboots and slow performance) but all is remedied with swappy set to 50. Using froyo's CM's internal a2sd for app managenment; haven't tried DT version yet. So what are the optimal settings for the pulse? Can anyone give this n00b some pointers? Also, 25 MB extra internal memory space after moving Dalvik cache to sd :-) Highly recommended. Edited February 25, 2011 by hunk74
Guest Dante2070 Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 I'm also a noob, actually way noobier. I tried today to move my dalvik cache to the sd card, but it wouldn't let me ("Cannot move dalvik-cache to SD card", apperantly because "Mounting ext partition failed", "Swap block device not found", "Swap not active" and "EXT partition not mounted"). I also use Tom G's rom. Do you think I should install swap, too? As far as I know it might already be there, since I entered "swap" in term and it didn't say anything, which, as far as I know, means it's there.
Guest hunk74 Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) You can partition your SD card in windows in FAT. At least that's how I did it. The Pulse superguide (see sticky) was quite helpful. After that you'll need to flash DT's apps2sd using clockwork(see opening post). If you think about moving your cache to sd only do so if you have a class4 card or higher? Do it at your own risk as phone might become unstable. I have a class 4 card with swappyness set to 50. Seems to work ok but phone is noticebly bit slower than before. It multitasks correctly though and you free up an additional memory of 20-25 MB internal mem. Edited February 25, 2011 by hunk74
Guest Dante2070 Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 Got only a class 2 card which came with the phone. I guess not worth using for dalvik cache-ing.
Guest Berndvh Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 Got only a class 2 card which came with the phone. I guess not worth using for dalvik cache-ing. a class 2 card doesnt really mean that is isn't fast enough to do dalvik cache on sdcard. on some other thread on this forum there is a benchmarking tool that lets u measure the writing and reading speed of your sdcard. but to my surprise my class 2 card got higher score's than some class 6 cards! so you should try that tool. regards
Guest hunk74 Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) twrocks CM6 mod thread goes much, much more in depth than I do here. Check there for the tutorial. Basic DTa2sd instruction: Type su in terminal for superuser in terminal. Type a2sd for options in DTa2sd. I find the lowmemkiller options the most interesting. Using moderate now and the phone speeds up even more :-) Edited February 25, 2011 by hunk74
Guest hunk74 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) Now using the lowmem-ultimate setting in DT a2sd and that seems to work best for me. Pulse has never been sooo stable and fast. No weird bugs or reboots in 3 days (knocks on wood) Also might have a solution for the rotation bug, just turn on all angles of rotation. Haven't had any problems with it anymore since then? My config: -SD card 4Gb class 4 -ext1 partition 512 Mb -Flash utility: Clockworkmod recovery -SD root dir: CM 6.1 pulse beta-0.40(TomG)+ gApps + DT a2sd -CMmod tweaks:Compcache 26%, JIT on, surface dith. on, lock home on, lock messaging on, VM heapsize =32m, CM a2sd on -DTa2sd tweaks: swappy50, lowmem-ultimate, cachesd -Market fixes: Blade Wifi Lovin' it! :) Only thing missing is zoom in the camera app? Haven't tested camera stability yet but have not encountered problems so far. Edited February 28, 2011 by hunk74

Guest pinkstuff Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 i am confused as to what to do froyos so kool that cyanogen rom - but i cant think of a work around - the fat 32 apps to sd is rubbish very very limited. I have millions of apps i keep in a folder that i carry with me - any ideas bros.. Pulse - froyo - 100 apps what are my options.. - i am running flbmod right now - and its kool but hey froyo is where its at.. holla

Only weird bug is that with cache now on sd some widgets don't seem to cache properly with their status on loading indefinitely. They still work when tapped tho.
