Guest FoxWolf Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 I recently upgraded my blade/SF to 2.2, mainly for the speed increases, but also for the ability to create a wifi AP. My PC currently does not have an internet connection as there is no wireless adapter. I can use my netbook for wireless, but currently the charger is broken and I am awaiting a delivery for a new one. I was wondering whether there was an app that allowed you to connect your phone to a "WIFI AP" and then use the tethering function to make the phone act like a wireless adapter. Thanks Stephen

Thanks Stephen It's easy enough to set up a wireless hotspot with your blade (if I've understood you correctly that's what you're trying to do) How you do it depends on which ROM you're on. Last time I did it was on an early FLB froyo, and if I remember right there was an option in Wireless and Networks that was called something obvious like Wireless Hotspot Fiddle with that (if you have it on your ROM) and see how it goes. I remember being surprised by how straight forward it was

I remember being surprised by how straight forward it was I want to use the phone to connect to a wireless AP, not to create one. I want to be able to then connect the phone that is connected to my Linksys router to my PC so that I am using the linksys wifi connection. ROUTER (LINKSYS) ====> SF =====> PC

ROUTER (LINKSYS) ====> SF =====> PC So you mean USB-tethering? If so go to settings->wireless&networks->usb tethering.
Guest FoxWolf Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 So you mean USB-tethering? If so go to settings->wireless&networks->usb tethering. nope, because USB tethering only allows you to use your mobile's connection as far as I know. Not a router.
Guest The Soup Thief Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 nope, because USB tethering only allows you to use your mobile's connection as far as I know. Not a router. Maybe check it? Turn your mobile data off Connect phone to wireless signal Tether Can't check myself atm as I don't have a wireless signal here (sorry for the misunderstanding above - diagram helped! )
Guest Lew247 Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 You want to connect to a wireless router? and THEN set your phone up to be a mobile wireless access point? I don't get it - that just isn't possible. If you mean can you connect your phone to a wired router and use its internet and then use your phone to make a new wireless access point then that isnt possible either you can only set it up to stream mobile data not data and you cannot use connect to a wired router anyway Do I need to point out that as your computer has no wireless card and your laptop no charger then you're wasting your time as you cannot connect to your computer other than by using USB in which case you simply need usb tethering If none of the above then try and describe that your trying to do a bit better?
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 i think he want pc <--- usb ---> phone <--- wifi ----> rooter you can't do it with base functions but surely there are apps in market which can do it but it would be a lot easier to buy a wifi card for you pc (usb dongle or pci)

I tried to do this a while ago but had no luck  Edited February 25, 2011 by Azurren
Guest Magnets Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) This is possible, but only via local web proxy. OP wants to use his phone as a wifi dongle (connected to PC via usb cable). I made a post a while ago about this (search), from memory you want proxoid, connect via usb and use ADB to forward a port from your PC to the phone. Configure your browser to use a proxy on the port you just forwarded. edit: just tried it again. Get proxoid running on your phone Connect USB cable and run "adb foward tcp:8080 tcp:8080" configure browser to use localhost:8080 as your proxy Edited February 25, 2011 by Magnets

I can't seem to get the app to work. It doesn't find the device. I have installed the custom driver and enabled usb debugging. I will ahve a look at the thread you mentioned. EDIT: EasyTether seems to work for what I need. ^^ Edited February 25, 2011 by FoxWolf

Guest ronc2000 Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 For what it is worth, a USB wifi dongle cost peanuts. Why go to all the trouble?

Guest Phoenix Silver Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 i have bought last year an engenius EUB 9703 works fine 12$ in a shop
Guest ronc2000 Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 Suggestion on the cheapest wifi dongle? I do not use one but I should think you can get one for a few quid. A search on ebay for "usb wifi adapter" returned HUNDREDS below 10 quid and many about 5-6 buy now price, many even post free. A cheap one should work OK.
Guest warwound Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 Suggestion on the cheapest wifi dongle? I picked up a couple of Zylex USB wireless adaptors (b & g) at a bootsale a couple of months back for just £4. warwound.
