My Vega crashed whilst trying to play a Flash video so I did a hard reset (held down power button) but whenever I turn it back on the backlight switches on and I get nothing.

I'm running the custom ROM for the official 1.09 release (Paul on holiday one) installed through my PC. Never got round to flashing clockwork recovery as I only bought it yesterday.

Anything I can do to get this thing functioning again? Anyway to return to factory defaults? Is it somehow not properly rebooting?

You're just not booting it properly. Hold the power button for at least 6 seconds. Release. Hold it again until the backlight comes on, release and then WAIT. Try a few times.

Cheers

I wish it was that simple. Tried at least a dozen times before posting with the exact same method (my power button is set to the home button when tapped through spare parts anyway so it doesn't just sleep it) and I'm getting nothing, even after waiting several minutes. I've done this before and it worked just fine but I'm just getting no signs of life when I use the exact same method this time.

Any other suggestions or am I really screwed? Perhaps waiting till the battery draws down completely?

What's my chances of getting a replacement then?

You're not screwed. Worst case is flashing the Advent stock ROM then mcr again.

Spare parts has nothing to do with whether your power point powers off or not. Only two ways to power off, via an application (like the one that runs when you hold the power button) or by holding it long enough to power off completely.

What do you see when the backlight comes on?

If you read the instructions they tell you how to get into recovery mode so you can reflash. Short of catastrophic hardware failure the vega can always be restored. If you look on the advent vega website the full update instructions have the correct steps. If you skip any steps it won't work, a two count is not the same as two seconds and if the power level is too low sometimes it won't enter recovery.

Ha, thanks for the reassurance. With the spare parts thing I was only meaning I'm not just sending it to sleep. The button does nothing unless I hold it for several seconds.

Its a completely black screen, nothing at all.

I've tried connecting it to my PC but I'm getting nothing, so how exactly would I be able to reflash it?

Edit: Didn't realise (or even consider) that Advent had built in a recovery mode of their own that we could use. My bad, sorry for the panic, I'm reflashing it now.

Thanks for the help!
