Just wondering if there was support and or drivers that would allow me to plug in my little portable hard drive into my tablet. I just want to access music files and videos off it without having to go though the sd card.

just plug it in.

but you must have the hard drive formatted as FAT32

if you're on stock Advent vega firmware you have to install an MCR rom, mobii tegra rom, or the usb switcher app to enable use of the usb port.

Make sure you switch USB to 'Master' (not Slave) - my Freecom 160gb portable drive is read fine.

My experience to-date is that portable HDD's will not work if they take their power feed from USB, the power draw is too much and either the Vega or the drive shuts down.

Anyone had any success with a brand/model that does work?

my Western Digital 300gb portable drive works fine, thats powered by USB. The only thing i have noticed is that it takes about 3 minutes for it to load in the directory.

Once you plug it in, wait a few minutes as the light flashes away, it'l eventually stop and then you have to hit refresh in the file manager and it should appear.

My Buffalo Passport (320Gb) works perfectly and now has 150Gb (ish) of movies & TV shows on it.

I have a Toshiba 2Tb portable HDD with 500GB formattted as FAT32, and it works fine.

I find that sometimes it takes 30secs for iFileManager to detect it is there, but I think this is because I put the partition at the rear of the drive.

I am using an old laptop hdd is a cheap and nasty ebay caddy and it works fine.

I am using the scripts supplied on another thread to access the different partitions, one for music and one for films.

Struggling a little here :( I've formatted (FAT32) a 2GB USB stick and copied a movie to it. Plugged it in and switched to USB host. However the Vega fails to recognise it... any ideas please?

I can mount a number of different usb sticks without a problem but I cannot mount a hard drive except ones with a seperate power supply.

I have tried a Lacie 320GB and two 1.8" drives.

Is there a way of knowing the power required by an external drive to see if it matches the output of the Vega?
