Guest dragon2611 Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 Do people here tend to switch off their vega or do you just leave it on in sleep mode? Did think of powering mine off over night, but was thinking about just leaving it in sleep mode so I can just wake it up if I find I can't sleep (I tend to end up browsing the internet when that happens) Tend to switch my android phone off at night on days when I'm not working so that I don't get woken early by someone phoning it (dunno why I don't just use flight mode) but since the vega doesn't have a phone that's not likely to happen
Guest carl rose Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 I just leave it on standby, it does not take almost any power.
Guest warriorscot Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Standby myself only ever turn it off if there is a problem or I am updating.
Guest worto03 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Mine stays on standby plugged in overnight by the side of the bed. I hardly ever turn it off.
Guest Lennyuk Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Depends what I am using it for, if I think I will not be using it for hours and hours (or days etc) then I power it off, if I am leaving it for an hour or so I just put it to sleep (especially now with under-clocking). If its somewhere in-between the two then I will use suspend mode, but its not often as it boots in seconds anyway and saves far more power (I find) when you turn it off.
Guest Mahoog Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 I had an Eken M001, actually I still have one - no idea what to do with it, maybe there's a scheme to recycle them into hats or something useful - and it took about three minutes to boot up. The Vega is up and running in a fraction of that time so I power down.
Guest dragon2611 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Left mine on all day and its at 50% battery suspect an app I had installed was constantly waking it up (probably tweetdeck)
Guest Touch Graphite Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 More than often, it runs like a dog after a wake up. Dont know why. Thats why I always lean towards the power off. After all, power up takes mere seconds.
Guest wi-fli Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 My power strategy is basically like LennyUK's. I was under the impression that I'd get more battery life (ie. irreversible life, before the battery starts to hold noticeably less charge) by generally not using "suspend" much, but thinking about it, that is probably not really relevant, even though it's true: I'd estimate my usage at not more than an hour a day, so with standby usage that would mean full battery drain (one full cycle) in about 3 days, hence 120 cycles per year. Since Li-ion batteries apparently have a life of maybe 500 cycles give or take, that means at least three years use before the overall battery life starts to get noticeably worse. And three years is probably as long as you might expect this kind of kit to need to last anyway... Just my idle thoughts  See here http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2011/0...ion-battery.ars for some discussion on batteries...
Guest dopeh Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 I power mine off most of the times.. It's up and running in no-time, and I didn't add the custom boot animation for nothing :-)
