Guest onourway Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 I've got an Orange San Francisco and teh touchscreen keeps not responding, I've done full reinstall of image etc, still the same. If I sort of touch really hard on the top it'll start working again for a few minutes, then it'll do the same again. I bought the phone second hand so don't have a receipt, if I was to take it to the orange shop, would they arrange a repair without the receipts? Would I have to put the software back to the original version if I did? Would I also have to put an orange sim card in? Thanks for any help.

Yes the least you have to do is restore the original rom and put an orange sim card in it. Whether they would repair for you is another matter. One thing that is in your favour is that if it is an orange phone it cannot be more than 12 months old so they could honour the warranty 3even if you do not have the receipt.

Thanks, it's worth a try. One thing to note, I've cracked the camera cover thng now due to twisting it to get it to work temporailly, it's not causing a problem but I presume they'll think fault is caused by physical damage now! I wonder if it's fixable, someone else posted a while ago about repairing them, I don't know how hard that would be though!

I've had no luck with any of the ideas I came up with for fixing the problem, and the components are just too small to solder - they make the end of a toothpick look like a log...

In this country, the company that sold you the faulty product, the retailer, should replace, repair or refund it. Unless it was a personal/private sale, then you're totally out of luck. Other retailers sell the same phone too. The Orange shop takes the name & address of anybody that buys a phone from them. They know exactly when, where & who they've sold every phone to. If he had bought the phone from the Orange shop, then he could take it back without a receipt, but he didn't buy it from them. Onourway, I don't think there's anything you can do, if you bought it from a person selling it second hand, rather than a trader. You could try to get the receipt off whoever sold it to you, but they don't have to help you at all. Otherwise you'll need to repair it or buy a new one. There seem to be less reports of this fault with newer phones. Edited February 28, 2011 by wbaw
Guest gremlinman Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Contact your seller and ask for all the information that orange want then take it back as it came out of the box (ROM, ROOT is a big no no, and recovery).

It seems to have given up totally now, I know how to get the original ROM back on, how do I go about unrooting it back to normal and everything else I'll need to do? Also can I put the old recovery on? Thanks
