I used my SF on the internet yesterday for the first time. I tried to access the local woodturning club website and was amazed to find it blocked with some kind of X rated category. I then tried a few other sites that I normally visit on my PC, all were also blocked.

When I tried to change my Safeguard in the Parental controls, I was told I had to phone Orange to tell them my age. I rang 450 and it took over ten minutes to get the permissions changed.

The Customers Services on the mobile side seem to be a complete waste of time. I emailed them asking for help, that was over 10 days ago and apart from a return email saying they would get back, nothing at all.

The sooner I find the confidence to unlock the phone and get away from Orange and all their ridiculous charges, the happier I will be.

Apologies for the rant, but I guess I'm not the only unhappy Orange customer.

Following the instructions in here to debrand your SF (best done by installing a debranded ROM, than uninstalling apps) is really easy and it's really worth the 20-30 minutes you'll invest :-)

you don't need confidence all you need is the app in this post

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...code-generator/

install it and it will generate your unlock code - no going on websites to get it and its free

Simply place a Vodafone or similar sim in the phone and it will ask for the unlock code - put in the code you generated and it will be unlocked instantly

If you don't want to use an app simply visit this site http://arrtoo.x10.mx/unlockBlade.php put in your imie (under the battery or on the box or dial *#06# on the handset to get it) and use the code generated to unlock the phone

Sorry if this sounds too stupid, but there shouldn't be a problem in using the orange sim provided with the phone once unlocked right ??

It would be stupid to waste the £10 credit which comes with it.

Why would you be wasting it?

Either sell it or use the credit on it

just because you unlock it doesn't mean you can't use it on orange

Unlocking the phone just means you can use ANY sim card in the phone Including Orange!

No problem at all - your Orange sim will still work. The only difference will be that sims from other networks will work too!

[oh, beaten to it. *sad trumpet*]

Good plan. I'm switching to Giffgaff, but I'll keep my Orange £10 for Orange Wednesdays!

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciated.

I just read in the papers that Orange has lost over a million PAYG customers in the last year. It's not hard to understand why.

Browsed a couple of pages and I was £ 2 down. As soon as the credit is finished, the chip goes in the bin.

No, mine was in the common Daily Express, nothing so grand as the Marketing Magazine. Still the numbers are the same and probably all left for the same reasons, price and poor customer service.

Used my £20 credit to donate £5 a time to the Red Nose day event.

Depends where you live really............I tried to go over to giffgaff but when I got the sim cards the next morning - very quick delivery (one for me - on Orange, one for other half - on TMobile) I found that I/we couldn't get a signal (tried 3 different phones too) (O2 is not very good around here - I got a signal outside but no-where in the house - the coverage for my postcode said it was "Good" outdoors and "Ok" indoors.

Sorry to say it wasn't and I let giffgaff know that it wouldn't work (fortunately I found out just before I/We ported our existing numbers over) and they were very good and gave me an immediate refund of the topup and goodybag that I had bought. (Mind you, giffgaff customer service has just this minute sent me my "statement" so maybe they are not as "switched on" as we like to think they are.

Giffgaff have pretty cheap calls and I was going to go onto £10 goodybag PAYG but I would have to pay that every month so it is virtually for my particular use, the same as Orange Dolphin at £10 per month PAYG.

I liked the giffgaff forum based customer service instead of customer services in another far distant land, even though it took hours of reading to find one's way around the forum (applies to all forums/fora/fori IMHO.

So, for us in this location, we get a full signal on Orange/Tmobile (an even better one on Vodaphone spare phone/sim) but not a bleep from O2 in and around the house.

Horses for courses and all that...............

And just to add to the Orange fun (apart from my SIM card sending out a text on every reboot), I registered to Dolphin last night...

Got a text at 7am this morning welcoming me to Dolphin and saying I need to top-up by £10 to get my freebies....

Had another text at 5:26pm today saying I am on Starter :(

I've still got £9.81 on my orange sim but I dont intent to use it except when on Holiday when I cant get an O2 signal. The only signal is Orange in that part of Scotland.

Does anyone know how much internet will cost me on the Dolphin PAYG tariff bearing in mind I wont have topped up after the initial month has expired? I can only find something in their T&C's about a maximum charge of £2 per day.

maximum daily charge for mobile internet browsing £2†

†Subject to a 25MB per day cap

2 daily capped rate (up to 25MB)* so you never pay more than this in a day

*Beyond this limit, UK mobile internet will be charged at standard mobile internet rates (see the pay as you go Price Guide for details). http://www1.orange.co.uk/service_plans/dow...PG-20101208.pdf

There was also something about buying extras but I'm still confused about the general price of using remaing credit for browsing without buying more top-ups or extras. I just want to use up the remaining balance.

mobile internet - lasts for - cost - Extra £p/MB - standard £/MB* - how to buy it (by text to 6620)

50MB UK mobile internet - 1 day - £1 - 2p/MB - £2/MB - WEB 1

250MB UK mobile internet - 1 month - £5 - 2p/MB - £2/MB - WEB 5

4MB mobile internet in Western Europe - 1 month - £5 - £1.25/MB - £4/MB - W EURO WEB 5

UK = mobile internet on your phone within the UK.

The bloke in the Orange shop said I could carry on using the credit at a cost of 5p per MB which doesnt sound right to me.
