How to enable CM7 dubbging mode?

Hi

I have CM7 Nightly 8, and when I connect the device to usb there is no notification that usb debugging mode is active even though the option is enabled within settings->application->development.

When I try to run adb commands it always spits out errors that the device can't be found.

Any advice please?

Actually the only reason I need this for now is to be able to edit the build.prop file, is there an alternative way of editing this file than using adb to pull it, edit and push it back?

did you install the drivers?

Thanks, I had installed drivers from another source, when I upgraded them to the ones on that thread it worked.

it should just be the notification on the phone that doesn't work, it should be enabled.
