Guest SkyBlue92 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Hey all, Firstly, I've been reading the forums here for a few days as a guest, and I have to applaud everyone on their efforts, there's a lot of really cool stuff on here by the looks of it! Also seems to be a nice forum community, which I hope I can become a part of . On Saturday I gave in to the temptation of buying an Android smartphone, deciding to go for the Orange San Francisco (the price of £79.90 on mobiles.co.uk was hard to resist!), seems like a good choice from the reviews I've seen, especially for the money - it should arrive tomorrow, and presumably it will be the latest TFT model (would have liked the OLED, but no biggie!). As the title suggests, I am a complete newbie when it comes to Android - my current phone being the Orange Vegas (also by ZTE), a cheap £20 touchscreen with the bare minimum in terms of features! I should be able to read the great guides on here to successfully install ROMs etc. but being a total newbie, it can all be a little overwhelming at times, reading discussions between people who know their stuff! So I have a few questions; 1) Should I definitely mod the phone? If so, what would be the essential/best mods? 2) Is anything I do reversible? I don't want to brick my device and/or have my warranty voided! One of my mates did that with his PSP a few years ago! 3) Should I get a screen protector/skin? Any other general Android/OSF tips appreciated! Sorry if I'm annoying anyone with a typical newbie post!

Guest SkyBlue92 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 I have to say I expected a reply like that, and don't blame you for it :). I saw that thread, but asked again because I thought there may be a possibility of outdated information due to the possible slight changes in hardware/software with the release of newer models, such is the usual "cat-and-mouse" game between hackers/manufacturers (i.e. one version of the PSP could be downgraded and hacked, a later version couldn't, and would result in bricking). I'll give it a shot anyway, the guides on http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/ seem very noob-friendly and well written. Any friendly advice welcome, remember, we were all noobs once .
