No

Stupidity...

Gremlinman, I really suggest you to take your time, and read about mobile OS's. Symbian is not open source (not any more anyway), has no support for our hardware (Nokia never liked Qualcomm, used TI OMAP chipsets instead), and such.

@gremlinman why do you ask so stupid questions? Symbian is a slow operating system on Nokia Devices, why would you want it on a Android Phone. Android is 100 times better. Thats why Nokia are switching to Windows Phone 7, even nokia think its awful.

If only you could reverse that and put Android on the N8 for example... such a waste of hardware. . .

Yeah big shame. My mate got an N8 (for the camera mostly) and it's a lovely bit of kit...shame about symbian.

Just to preempt any further topics, the following are also not possible to be ported to our phones for technical and/or legal reasons:

  • Windows Xp
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
  • iOS (for iPhones)
  • Mac Os
  • OS2
  • Blackberry OS
  • Bada
  • Windows Mobile

actually, i don't think symbian is a bad OS. in many ways it is a better phone than the blade (i came from an E71).

i think the main problem was that they had a poor developer ecosystem and app delivery platform. the battery life was amazing and ergonomics of a keyboard based UI is great.

i'm actually considering going for an android tablet for more tablet based activities and back to the E71 for a phone and light browsing/email.

Symbian is not a "phone", it is an operating system.

The last time "Symbian" was truly usable it was called "EPOC" and that was a loooong time ago.

Still have my Ericsson MC218 (Psion series 5mx) somewhere

Still got a Psion 3c sitting in a drawer at home - along with one of those SSD cards containing autoroute! About 6 times the size of an SD card and only holds 512Kb I think. :) Those were the days!

OMG :)

Surely we can get Fortran running?

I'm off to see if I can get any interest from the CyanogenMOD team...

EDIT - just back from cyanogenmod.com - they were all really keen to get going with this! Even gave me some really helpful suggestions where I can shove all my punchcards

I had Nokia 5800 and it has s60v5 and it was not very usable.

N70 had s60v2 and that was not very usable.

Nokia 3210 was very usable.

Nokia E71 is still a great smarphone to this day... Nokia 5800 was the Blade of its time... N70 was a piece of crap :)

I've still got an 8310 that I take camping. Sure it only does calls and texts - but it lasts a week on battery with light usage!

Wouldnt use it day-to-day as i like checking up on facebook, downloading books, using maps etc. But I'm normally not more than 12 hours on the go without plugging it in so its not an issue.

Porting Symbian to the ZTE Blade would be like buying a Ferrari and replacing the engine with one from a scooter  MeeGo on the other hand...now that would be interesting.
