Guest brightroar Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Bought a brand new Orange San Francisco today (white ver.) from an Orange shop, with the intention of unlocking it and upgrading it to android 2.2, and using it with my Three UK simcard. First step - unlocking, using http://www.nextgenserver.com/calculator/ method. put my Three sim in and entered the unlock code, got a message saying it'd been unlocked. Since then, I have not been able to get a signal. My Three sim does not receive service when in the handset. The Orange sim it came with does not receive a signal either anymore, but when I first put it in the Orange sim was happily getting Orange and T-Mobile signal. So that's the first and most important problem. Second problem, after trying to get a signal on either sim and failing, I tried to just power ahead and try putting ClockworkMod on it using this guide (http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-roms-rom-customisation/319565/oled-tft-30-nov-2-5-1-3-clockworkmod-recovery/). Got as far as running command prompt and the message "waiting for device". When mounted as a drive after being turned on fully the phone appears as a drive on my laptop. When I hold increase volume and connect it up when it's stuck on the android logo, the device does not show up at all. Windows tried to install it automatically and failed, so I downloaded the drivers from here (http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/ZTE_Blade#PC_USB_Drivers) to try and force it to work. This hasn't worked either - running the .exe from the folder asks me to connect the phone to continue, and when I connect the phone it does nothing. Pointing the windows driver wizard thing to the folder left me with an error and a message informing me that the driver was not for this platform. I'm running Vista 64bit and was attempting to install the 64bit driver. I have done some searching around the forum but thus far haven't managed to find any ideas of how to fix the no service problem, at least not when it was caused by simply unlocking, and all the solutions for various other causes have involved putting a new ROM on it, which I can't do as it's not talking to my laptop properly. So far I have tried putting tape on the back of the sim, wiggling it down nearer the battery, and trying to poke up the contacts with a pin (all suggestions I found on here), with no luck so far. Any help greatly appreciated. Edited March 2, 2011 by brightroar

Try (if you have one) using a DIFFERENT computer and loading you phone in bootloader ( VOLUME+ UP) then plug it in. Find the most recent drivers somewhere on this forum, and when windows prompts you to install drivers, do locate files manually and select the directory where you unzipped the driver. (this worked for myself when i had a similar problem flashing splash images) If you can't do this, try using ROM manager on the market, because that can flash clockworkmod to you phone without a pc (but It only has 2.5.1.8) (hope those are the right numbers) I'm PRETTY SURE the blade isnt supported and therefore the clockworkmod might not work quite as it should. Maybe look at installing a ROM via other means (tpt) that don't need a computer connected.
Guest brightroar Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Firstly u cant brick by unlocking? And did u root? Lastly use recovery manager to flash clockwork. If I can't brick it by unlocking it, why has it stopped being able to receive signal on ANY sim since unlocking, when it was getting signal fine before, and before I had even tried to connect it to my computer? The only thing I did was unlock it, and since that point was unable to get any signal on it. I don't know if I've rooted or not tbh. I'm pretty new at this - pretty capable when it comes to tech but I've never mucked about with a phone in this way before. I've been following a guide (here: http://www.chrislowthian.co.uk/how-to-unlo...rancisco/1824/). Rooted or not, it shouldn't make any difference as to whether my laptop will even recognise the phone exists? I can't use recovery manger to flash clockwork, i'm not even entirely sure what recovery manager is but pretty sure I don't have it. Haven't had a signal since I unlocked it, and the wifi isn't connecting.
Guest Lew247 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Take the battery out and start again - this should clear the problem with no signal the new phones cannot be put in bootloader mode - ie holding the volume up key it just will not work root the phone using universal androot (connect to market using wifi if you still cant get a signal) then once you have that install rom manager from the market, using that app install clockwork mod (blade is at the bottom of the list) once installed and working copy the rom of your choice to your sd card and use rom manager to install the rom

Vol up puts it on a screen with the android logo and doesn't continue to boot the phone properly so I assume it's getting to bootloader mode correctly. Can't connect to wifi at all - is able to scan networks, have put in network key, and then nothing - won't connect.

Sorry Im no pro at uninstalling drivers (on your original pc) so I wouldnt be able to help you there. Maybe a quick google might produce a guide for you.
Guest brightroar Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 So did you have any luck trying to use a different PC? Attempting it on a Macbook in a minute. Drivers I installed had an uninstaller... We'll see.

The Three sim is about 1yr old. The Orange sim it came with is brand new, and doesn't work either since the unlocking, even though it was working perfectly before.
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) No luck with the macbook. did it prompt for the drivers? Ill try and check what I am using at the moment. Unfortunately, when I couldnt connect my blade to my pc, a new ROM helped, but, in your situation, that isnt possible without the pc...WAIT!!!! hahaaaaa I think I may have it Have you got an sd card reader? Or another phone which DOES connect which allows mass storage? because Im sure it would be possible for me to pull across some APKS from my phone that you could install on yours, but Im not sure what would be of much use...ahhh! RECOVERY MANAGER. Ill send you the zip for it along with a clockworkmod.img. SO basically: 1)Put your phones sd card in another device (that supports mass storage) 2)Copy the files I send you to it (also, put whatever ROM you want on it, i recommend MCR or FLB) 3)Put the sd card back in your phone, and open FILE MANAGER (or astro, es, whatever you use) 4)Find and install the RECOVERY MANAGER apk(or zip) 5)Open RECOVERY MANAGER 6)Somewhere in it you should be able to open .img files from your SD card (it might auto detect actually) 7) select that .img file, and It should be able to install clockwork for you. 8) Turn off your phone, reboot it with VOLUME DOWN+POWER held, it should now boot into recovery. 9) use the volume buttons to navigate. use home to select. 10) do a factory reset (wipe your cache whilst your at it) 11) install .zip from sd card, then select CHOOSE zip, and navigate to your ROM Edited March 1, 2011 by Mushroom_Lord
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Download RECOVERY MANAGER http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ger-v0-34-beta/ CLOCKWORKMOD .IMG http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...blade-oled-tft/ PS the device you attach it to doesn't have to be an SD card reader. It could be anything, eg, a Camera, as long as it supports usb mass storage Edited March 1, 2011 by Mushroom_Lord

Guest Maringer Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Just one "am I an idiot?" thing you might want to try: check you haven't put your SIM card back in the phone the wrong way around. When I unlocked my SF, I somehow managed to do this and it took me about half an hour to work out that the reason I didn't have a signal was that I'd been a complete idiot! Not my finest moment in the tech arena...

Guest brightroar Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 putting MCR on it now. was trying FroYo before. no idea which version of clockworkmod. or well i had an idea at the time but have lost the page. MCR appears to be making it do stuff...

Which ROM is it? Does it boot? Does it know there is a SIM in there? Have you done a WIPE in clockwork (factory reset, wipe cache , wipe davalk cache)? Will be here for a bit to help.

I've just tried MCR and it gave me the dude in the blue hoodie logo and then went black, and now won't respond to any key pressed. the back button is still flashing red though. it's not saying NO SIM or anything similar, and never has done. it's just refused to get a signal. Have done a wipe.
