Guest Fluffykins Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Hi all. Got my phone today and eagerly tried to unlock. Got the IMEI off the phone (twice, to check I'd written it down properly) Went to Nextgen and got an unlock code - entered it and it failed; I got an invalid code message and 4 tries left. Tried once again, thinking I may have mistyped. Same result. Double-checked the unlock code with Arrtoo I'm wondering if I have a B10 or 'better'. How can I tell the version? OK. What can I do now to unlock, apart from gift Orange twenty quid? Thanks Fluff

Settings / about the phone but juste install a 2.2 rom Phone Will be unlocked Yup, it's a B10 Build Number: OUK_P729BV1.0.0B10 OK. I'll have to install a 2.2 ROM. Is there an idiot guide to doing that, starting from what is, I take it, a 2.1 version B10 phone that I can't unlock? Thanks Fluff

Thanks Fluff Hi I have had a new SF delivered from the CPW boys yesterday that has the build number OUK_P729BV1.0.0B10 that I unlocked with the free code with no problems at all. I did not insert the Orange SIM but went straight to my old 3 network SIM which worked a treat.
Guest simonsays1 Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 If the unlock codes from Nextgen and Arrtoo are the same then maybe check your IMEI. Remember you can get your IMEI number on the phone by typing *#06# in the dialler. It's possible that Orange have introduced a new locking algorithm but I think this is unlikely.

Just to avoid any confusion: Can I install a 2.2 rom on the stock "as-received" phone, without any other changes - Android updating and the like? Thanks Fluff Edited March 2, 2011 by Fluffykins

Guest xzyk Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) I thought all CPW phones were sold unlocked anyway? You should have tested first. most are, but not the Orange SF apparently. I suppose its probably because it is only sold on Orange at the moment (at least in the UK) AFAIK. Mine too came locked from CPW and I too had the vol up not working with the B10 firmware but a quick adb took me into bootloader from where i could load up clockword. I haven't tried unlocking yet but if it gives me a problem I will load a 2.2 rom (or even an 'older' Orange 2.1) and try again. Edited March 2, 2011 by xzyk
Guest JolyonS Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 Have you actually tried a non-Orange SIM? I had a Nokia phone which would not take the unlock code - Vodafone were scratching their heads about it until one of their staff checked with another SIM and found it was already unlocked; got the same error as if an incorrect code had been entered. We all felt a little foolish.
