R8 and Stock 1.09 Firmware

Hi All,

I've got a bit of free time tonight (a very rare thing these days, my PS3 thinks I'm having an affair!) and now that I've got shiny new broadband installed I'm intending to take my Vega back to stock, flash CWM and then possibly apply R8.

I've checked the forum but have found some conflicting views as to whether it's OK to flash R8 over 1.09 and what the consequences might be for using Flash etc.

Is it possible, and would having the additional performance pack as well provide any benefit?

Can anybody running the same set up provide a steer on performance issues etc.

One final note, has there been any news on an R9 pack from Paul (as ever, brilliant work!), potentially utilising Gingerbread?

Thanks all,

J

Simple answer - Yep!

I'm using MCR8 installed over 1.09 and it works perfectly  If you have Market issues etc then do a second MCR install over the original (as some things might not have worked) and if you STILL have isues after that, install ROM Manager (or ClockworkMod directly from the instructions listed in the sticky) reboot into CWM recovery and run a "Fix Permissions" on the device, which should sort any other issues you might have.

It's lovely and fast too :)

BTW the only difference between 1.08 and 1.09 was the addition of certified Adobe Flash player. The actual ROM is still 100% the same as 1.08.

Don't want to burst your bubble.... but MCR8 is a full rom, you don't need any base to flash it as it will completely overwrite whatever rom you have underneath. I.e. if you install 1.09 then flash MCR 8 your left with just mcr8

if you have MCR6 and then flash MCR8 your left with just MCR8

doesn't matter what rom you start with, after flashing mcr8 you just have mcr8

Thats interesting because I've had problems with the usb switcher causing the vega to need reflashing when trying it on 1.09 with r8 but with 1.08 and r8 I've had no problems so I've stayed on 1.08 on mine and my mates?

thats even more odd then maybe mine just needed to be reflashed back to base because of something else I'd messed with?

Actually, no its not - there were a number of other changes to some files within the 1.09 build - check out the diff I did a week or so ago here:

So, to be clear then... if I flashed 1.09, then added r8, I would lose the new Adobe Flash update, as well as the extended Notification Bar etc...

Getting Flash working properly is really my primary concern.

Fortunately I settled for flashing my Nexus One with CM7 instead tonight so it's all good :-)

That's correct. You're be on MCR8, not 1.09+MCR8
