upgrading clockwork mod

First off, hello :(

i've been searching and cant seem to find the solution to upgrading clockwork mod (if i missed it somewhere, apologies)

i'm basically wanting to upgrade my phone to a 2.2 or 2.3 ROM, but the guides mention a newer version of clockwork mod than is currently on my phone (2.5.0.9). problem is i was given this phone already modded and had no hand in it, so its now a steep learning curve for me as i've only had Windows PDA-style phones before.

the reason i want to upgrade is that the rom its running (BladeVillain 1.1.0) seems to have issues, such as selecting the Picture Folder causes an error (Sorry! The application Picture Folder (process com.alensw.PicFolder) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force Close) and other niggles such as running out of space a lot. i've purchased an 8gb card to replace the 2gb for when i upgrade so i can hopefully do the whole app2sd thing.

so i'm guessing before i go any further i should update clockwork mod before starting to choose which rom to go for.

anyone care to share any pointers on doing this?

Easiest way if you've already got a computer with ADB or fastboot is to flash a new clockwork image over the top of the old (there's plenty of guides on the forums).

For a complete newbie I'd probably go the following route:

1) Make sure your phone is charged

2) Plug it in to a power point (you don't want it dying halfway through! It won't brick your phone but you'd have to go the fastboot method to recover it and you're trying to avoid that!)

3) Download the new recovery image

4) Mount the phone, copy recovery image over to your sdcard and rename it to: recovery.img

5) Open a terminal emulator (this assumes you have a rooted phone!) and enter the following commands:

su

flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

reboot recovery

The last command will reboot the device and boot you into recovery mode ready to perform a backup of your current setup and re-flash whatever ROM you feel like :(

Ojust download ROM Manager, press flash clockmod recovery, choose ZTE Blade and wait till it says its completed.

thanks guys, used the ROM Manager method and its now on v3.0.0.6 :(

now i just need to work out what personal stuff i can backup before trying a new ROM
