[GUIDE] Alternitive Partition Sizes

Hi iv been working on this for a while now and iv herd that some market apps are now needing 40MB /cache to install so here it is.

These files will give you the ability to have two different partition layouts other than stock :-D its a very easy and safe procedure (well as safe as a factory restore)

As always i am not responsible for any bricks :( or earthquakes that are caused by this. by undertaking this task u understand the risks :(

[GUIDE]

Windows

1) Open the flash.exe in winrar (or preferd zip manager) and replace the flash.cfg with the desired one from below

2) Close the zip manager

3) Run restore as normal

Linux

1) replace the flash.cfg with the one desired from below

2) do restore as normal ;-)

As always with a factory reset this will wipe data so backup everything needed :)

[LAYOUTS]

/system 122.5MB || /cache 10MB || /data 350MB (For people who want to gain some more space on /data)

/system 122.5MB || /cache 40MB || /data 320MB (For people who want to install the apps from the market that need 30mb+ cache)

For reference the Stock Layout Is

/system 122.5MB || /cache 32MB || /data 328MB

Thanks for the guide. I have a question about the cache, it seems fairly redundant on the Vega, as far as I know it is only used for Market downloads whilst on other devices there is more to it (such as Radio or OTA updates etc.).

My question is, can you elimate the cache partition entirely and have some kind of permanent symlink or mount in the Data partition (so /Cache would be linked to /Data/Cache)? Or even have it on SD (or EXT partition)?

Cheers!

As far as i know we cant entirely remove /cache .... i can make it like 1mb and mount it to SD card ... but market uses /cache

i will be doing more research :(

thanks, fixed my problem with being unable to install touchmix.

little hint: run a nandroid backup through clockworkmod first, and place the img files(renaming data.img to userdata.img) in the same folder as the flash.cfg to prevent a factory reset(or rather, let it "factory reset" into it's old state)

make sure your data.img isn't bigger than the allotted space for the data partition though.
