ClockworkMod and flashing boot

Hey all,

I have just successfully installed ubuntu on my vega (many thanks to hybr1d for his work) and partitioned my sd card to fit both my android and linux partitions.

To switch between droid and linux, all I have to do is flash the boot partition with the boot image for the other OS.

I can flash from android using the flash_image utility but I was wondering whether it would be possible to flash boot in the same way from linux? And if it can't, is there any way I could boot into CWM recovery from linux as I could flash from there?

If anyone could explain how recovery mode is booted exactly I'd be very grateful.
