I have not even killed a task before i had 1480 Since yesterday I have the idea to downgrade to 1.6.1, but before that I want to gather nice apps and tweaks from 1.7.0 'till 1.8.1 : tabletphone, fonts, Office HD etc... and also HDMI tweak. By the way does anybody knows that .apk or file I have to copy in order to make HDMI work on 1.6.1 ? both files in /sytem/gscript and /sytem/app/gscript.apk ? Or something more ? Thank you for your you help. Cheers Edited March 5, 2011 by baastien
Guest kentt Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 I agree. 1.6.1 is probably to most stable.

This works also with fonts, just copy files in /system/fonts/, fix permissions and reboot.
Guest binary_boy01 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Hi guys, To be on topic: i've been testing streadroid 181 for 2 weeks. It's great, but i have downgraded to StreakDroid 1.7.0 aka HD and i can tell you, is lighting fast, new dialler (from streak7), no problems in calllogs found in 181 when you add option <tabletphone> to install.txt. As for the quadrant score, well, is charging now, but as soon as battery is up to 100% i'll run it and post scores. Cheers,
Guest alert_bri Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 I am expecting 1.9 to be the most stable release yet. I don't see the point in going backwards. Trust Steve and his beta testers to make continued progress with the gradual release of new builds from Dell on which to work. Patience Cheers Brian
Guest mrmrmrmr Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 yeah, I agree: 1.6.1 was the most stable and fastest release at all. 1.8.1 has huge problems.

I believe that is the point of this thread.... 1.8 was a step backwards in stability.
Guest alert_bri Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 I believe that is the point of this thread.... 1.8 was a step backwards in stability. I'm not so sure... Too many variables to make such a sweeping statement. Have you tried a clean stock install, and then 1.8.1 without perfmod? I suspect that would be relatively stable - but I'm living with perfmod until 1.9 is released, I can live without GPS and good phone audio for another day or two :D Cheers Brian
Guest HOkay Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 I just thought I'd throw in my two cents, I've not tried any other releases so can only comment on 1.8.1 but I have found it to be nice and stable once you clear the data from any apps that give you problems, i.e. I've had to clear data on the calendar, google maps & one or two others. Also I've found that the only non-gingerbread launcher that works for me is launcher pro but it has to be installed after the ROM and NOT in the install.txt, that causes a super fun boot loop on first boot!

I did it. And my 1.8.1 right now is blazing fast and pretty much stable. 1.8.1 to stock 2.2 then back to 1.8.1. Try it.
Guest TheSacredSoul Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Currently on 1.9 beta. Seems rock solid. Not a single reboot so far, unlike 1.8.1. :D
Guest ClippinWings Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Currently on 1.9 beta. Seems rock solid. Not a single reboot so far, unlike 1.8.1. :D Very good to hear... thanks.

In a day or so the phone always starts rebooting. I was ok with trying over and over as I get use to the Android OS and this is my play phone vs my iPhone 4 being my work / entertainment device. I have plenty of time and patience to get it right, it just wasn't useable. 1.7.1 couldn't keep the 3G / Wifi constantly working. 1.6.1 is fast and has less issues, namely just being unable to switch keyboards consistently. I did get that fixed in 1.6.1, nut not in newer builds at all. I believe Steve tweeted that 1.9.1 has many reboot issue fixes in it, so i am hopeful and have my restore created in case I need to revert again. I know Steve is working hard to make the best builds possible. To be honest, if backup software saved the data inside the app I wouldn't mind all the wipes so much. It's configuring my apps every day from messing around that's driving me bonkers.

Not a single reboot so far, unlike 1.8.1. :D Excellent - any new features you can talk about? PS - how does one get into the betas? Since my Streak is a play device, I don't mind testing on it. And my 1.8.1 right now is blazing fast and pretty much stable. 1.8.1 to stock 2.2 then back to 1.8.1. Try it. That is my experience too. Initially I would have agreed with the disappointed comments on 1.8.1 but then I did the '1.8.1 to stock 2.2 and back to 1.8.1' and have a fast stable device and no issues to report - within my scope of usage that is. The steps to follow are found on this Thread http://android.modaco.com/content-page/333...-post/page/300/

And I was/am still tired of re-configuring each time with no guaranty. Anyway like you, I'm looking forward for 1.9 release.

Anyway like you, I'm looking forward for 1.9 release. This is just to clarify, but I did not perform a factory reset. I agree that all that backing up, restoring data, reinstalling apps is a complete pain but in my case the end result made it worthwhile. Like most of us, I too am looking forward to Steve's new release. Even if it means backing up, restoring, reinstalling etc. but fingers crossed it won’t.
Guest 00roberto00 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 thanks god nandroid backup works great. i installed 1.8.1 and tried few days... really horrible..phone calls issues wifi issues even launcher ex issues... market FCs!!! i went back to the 1.6.0 with a restore (never succeeded to upgrade to 1.6.1, it just wont install) i think this is the most stable even if not perfect (problems if u change dpi from stock 160) plus i dont want throw afternoons reinstalling apps and settings with new faulty releases for to obtain what? 100 point more score?
Guest rebski Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 plus i dont want throw afternoons reinstalling apps and settings with new faulty releases Are you saying that 1.8.1 is faulty? If so then I don't agree, my experience confirms otherwise. Ever since I adopted the procedure as outlined above and stated elsewhere I have had no problems whatsoever.
Guest Roperband Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 I've had a lot less problems since I went back to 160 screen density. I still have some FC's on the phone though, so let's hope these get worked out of 1.9.
Guest Brucealeg Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Are you saying that 1.8.1 is faulty? If so then I don't agree, my experience confirms otherwise. Ever since I adopted the procedure as outlined above and stated elsewhere I have had no problems whatsoever. There are to many reported incident with 1.8.1 to believe its all user related issues. A "procedure" that people can not reproduce isn't much of a feature. PLus Steve has tweeted that 1.9.1 fixes a lot of the crashes, maybe he didn't mean from 1.8.1 - but I wonder. Anyhow, I spent 3 days using the procedure every swore would make 1.8.1 stable and it didn't hold up.
Guest rebski Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 A "procedure" that people can not reproduce isn't much of a feature. I don't understand what you mean by that. The procedure I am referrng to consists of clearly defined steps. But i think we have all done what we were going to do so there is no point in rehashing what is soon to be history. Anyway I am sorry that you spent all that time and with a not-so-good result to show for it. The beauty of Steve's process is that the next upgrade is always just round the corner. Here's hoping that it cures your particular issues. It shouldn't be long now before we find out. :D
Guest digthemlows Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 I'm enjoying 1.6.0 ........... Very stable, very fast and I'm getting really good battery use! ....... I'm excited to see what 1.9 brings though...........
