Guest macc2010 Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Does anyone know when Marketplace is coming to the vega? I know i could do it myself but it looks too hard to do myself so will have to wait till the update unless someeone lives near me in macclesfield? Why have they bought it out without market on it? I dont understand it.
Guest Lennyuk Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 market is not coming, or is very very unlikely to come officially. Google license the use of their apps, and they won't license any tablet that is not running honeycomb (except the galaxy tab). So if we get official honneycomb there is a chance then. Its really easy to do yourself just read the guides

Guest Buzing Bee Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 I was shure advent said market would come when google where allowing 10.1" devices (witch it seems only HC 10.1" will get market) lets just hope the vega becomes one of those devices :(

Guest xathras Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Won't actually install anything on your Vega though... You're quite wrong there. I've just downloaded and installed this Sky News app from https://market.android.com/ Check the photo - all I did was choose an app and click the install button. Simples!
Guest Cant-think-of-one Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Dude, I managed it, so anyone can do it. I had to read through all the threads, and there is a thread somewhere in fine detail walking someone through it step by step. There's also some excellent Youtube vids which show you how. When I started, I found it very daunting and had to Google just about every other word to see what it meant (ADB, APK etc, all double Dutch to me!) It took me about a week of keep reading, and watching the vids, before I felt confident enough to try it (just reading threads a few minutes a day) The good thing is, if you don't manage it, there's no harm done. if you manage to screw it up completely (I managed to kill mine by playing around with the USB thing) then you can download the original software from myadventvega.co.uk. you don't even need any knowledge to do that, just follow the step by step simple instructions and it runs the reinstall automatically. From what I've read it's virtually impossible to kill it completely, it can always be reset back to stock. A friend of mine bought one, and was really dissapointed with it until I flashed it for him, it really unleashes the power of the thing. I do agree with what you say, in stock form, it's not much cop (to me, anyway) but with the custom ROM on, it's awesome! HTH Chris
Guest steviesteve Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 I used the instructions located here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931337 Its as easy as downloading the file, unrar it, put it on your vega and click it to run. It goes over the top of the default setup and gives a few extras as well.
Guest rferrett Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 It is really worth persevering. There is a thread somewhere here about side loading the market APK onto the vega which will help for some. But in respect of the instructions to get the MoDaCo custom rom on where exactly are you stuck? There are people here and particularly in the Pinned threads who can help you. The tricky bit is installing the drivers (I am pretty computer literate and wanted to throw my laptop out of the window at one point) but actually it is relatively easy to do. Tell us where oyu are stuck and we will try to help! :(
Guest Lennyuk Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 And never trust anything an employee of PC world tell you. 99% of the time they don't have a clue and just make stuff up.

Simples! yes, because you're running MCR8 and have the Market installed..... :( The OP doesnt have this luxury

Don't give up so easy, it really is worth persevering, as ralph said it's installing the drivers that's the tricky bit. I found that if you can install clockwork mod from where you are now, the rest really is easy

Clockworkmod isn't worth it right now, when every reboot might break the OS.
Guest macc2010 Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 Many thanks for all your replys guys. I just dont feel that i can do it myself as i have looked to see what i need to do and i cant make head and tail of it so do you think if i take it to a pc shop they would do it for me? of course there will be a fee but i feel so much better having it done by someone who knows what they are doing.

There's not very much that could go wrong if you just use the clean rom add-on posted earlier. You install it like you'd install an official Advent software update. Just start the Settings app and tap "about phone". If your kernel version has "v1.09" in it, you're just two simple steps from unleashing your Vega! 1: copy the clean-rom update file(found here) to your SD card 2: in the software update tool in "Settings", navigate to the file and select it. Then just wait for it to finish. It'll reboot, update and then reboot again, all on its own. When the lock screen comes up again, you're done. :( Edited March 7, 2011 by AntiCatalyst

There are now no problems with CWM.

Works fine on the Desire and San Francisco but not on the Vega. If anyone has any hints I'm all ears!.... Edited March 8, 2011 by flyingscotno1

It's such a shame that you had to pay someone to do this. Of course, fully understand if you don't want to say, but how much did it cost you?

I paid £40 to have it done but i would rather pay that then not have market on Tablet or messing it up trying to do it myself.
