Guest linux003 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Hi, First of all I want to thank all of you for creating this resourceful forum. I have a variant of Vega. I totally love it although my friends tends to compare and fail to analyze the virtues of our tablets and say I have made a mistake. The thing is I have a very persistent ugly problem. My tablets occasionally shuts down indicating my battery is empty although I have charged it a while ago and it was indicating about 90 percents a while ago. But after these events i boot up the device and it seems ok indicating the correct battery level and goes on with or without doing the same glitch again. First of all, I suspected the battery calibration and have done wiping the batterystats.bin thing so many times but nothing. After i suspected a false voltage declaration and monitor the battery with a log but log says voltage same but goes down from the real battery level to 0 instantly. I am asking for advice. I don't want to send my device if it is a software problem as it will take an estimated time of a month to get it back. (here in Turkey support for every single electronical device tends to be like this.) Thanks
Guest trevor432990 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Hi ... have you modified your device by adding any new ROM packs from Modaco or other sites yet? If so was problem happening before you did the update/s or only since? If it is software related then most people seem to find simply re-flashing the system again can resolve a lot of issues so it's worth a try. There are also some free apps on the market which can monitor battery usage and do a health check (put 'battery health' in Market search and you'll find them) so one of them may show you if it is hardware related or not. :(
Guest linux003 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Thanks for the reply. I did get some battery apps but health check always shows ok. Are there any specific one you could advice particularly. The fact is that I have flashed every single rom out in the wild even the original one has shown the same symptoms. The only thing left to try is to load a linux image.
Guest trevor432990 Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Not sure I can help you any more but if you use the advanced search facility in this forum to find topics with 'Battery' in the title you will find lots of topics already on the subject which might give you leads to follow-up and resolve your problem. Good luck :(
Guest dopeh Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Yesterday it happened to me too. I had kept it in the charger over night, unplugged it in the morning and after 5 minutes of browsing the battery indicator went to 0% and the tablet shut down. After a restart everything seemed normal again. It was the first time it happened to me (and thus far the only time), but I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm running modaco r8 and all battery apps I've tried indicate my battery is fine. If this happens more often, I will go back to the shop.. I really don't think it's a software issue.
Guest Lennyuk Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Calibration issue! Things to avoid Don't have the charger in when you flash a new rom (if you can help it) Don't leave it charging during a boot, or shut down (remove then reinsert once finished) Don't leave it charging all night if you can help it, its not a phone it doesn't need to be charged like one (although this won't make any real difference). To sort it out, charge until android says its full, unplug, turn off, charge till full again (leave it an hour or 2), unplug, turn on, charge till full again and you should be good to go.

I have posted on my battery problems before Just had a randowm shut down last night when the battery was at 90% and suddenly reported itself as zero, when it came back on it was 24%!! Have tried your advice before but does not seem to have helped. When the device is off how do you know when it is fully charged? Also when I did this before and turned the Vega back on it shows 100% on the indicator. I have seen another thread about recalibration for the SF orange phone which broadly follows Lenny's steps but wipes the battery stats after recharge complete via clockwork mod, would that be advisable? Also some people think you need to have 100% on battery before flashing a a ROM. I didnt do that for mine I think it was about 60% when I did it which funnily enough, the battery level tends to drop to approx 20% when the battery is below the 60% charge and I turn the vega off and reboot Last question for Lenny, I note comment that you should flash rom without power plugged in, the instruction I saw when I installed Pauls ROM said to have the power cable plugged in? I am seriously getting cheesed off with the battery now, if it doesnt get any better the device will have to go back

If you have CWM installed then yes, wipe the stats. You can't really tell when its full while powered off, so just leave it for 2 hours or so when turned off, this should be fine.

Cheers for that Dont have CM on at the moment, I believe is in ROM manager so thought I may install that and try in first instance I have a 32GB SD card on order and was planning to start again with R8 Rom on a clean 1.09 image once that arrives, not sure how I would be able to keep applications I have if doing that (Titanium backup?) but will post on another thread with questions
